Intermittent Problem in Swansea Area

Hi there, I apologise upfront for my first post being a "Help me!" post, but I wanted to make sure what I am experiencing is not just something which can be fobbed off to being a problem with me / my PC etc whilst attempting to resolve it.

This morning, I noticed that there were some intermitted problems occuring with my connection, in that certain applications and websites seemed to be spiking in latency and were generally slow responding. I couldn't pin the problem down at the time, but after running various trace routes etc, I seem to have noticed a pattern, but am not sure whether it is actually related or something that i can fix from my end.

Some trace routes follow from various servers which I connect to on a daily basis, with explanations.

I use these news servers a few times a week and have never experiences any connection or speed problems. But today, the connection is continually dropping and speed is non-existant because of this.

Code:
C:\>tracert news.usenetserver.com

Tracing route to news.usenetserver.com [208.49.80.124]
over a maximum of 30 hops:

This is another server for World of Warcraft, but as you can see, it takes a different route to the server i would normally connect to. This server shows no latency or lag problems at all.

Code:
C:\>tracert 80.239.233.110

Trace complete.
After looking over the results, everything seems to start acting up once the trace hits 'bre-bb-b-so-100-0.inet.ntl.com [213.105.172.234]'.
But after checking the ntl faults webpage and service line, no problems have been reported, so I was wondering whether I was the only person experiencing problems such as these.

Any help with the above would be appreciated

General info:

Location: SA10 7
OS: WinXP Pro (Fault also occurs on a seperate PC) - Both confirmed free of spyware and the like.
Network Setup: NTL SACM (Terayon TJ210) connected through a Wired D-Link DI-604
Software Firewall is installed on both PC's - Problem confirmed with firewall on or off.

Funny you posted that, as I can confirm the problem just this minute resolved itself, and everything is working at full speed. Oh well, thanks any ways

Between 7th/04/06 (today) and 12th/04/06 Ntl are carrying out Server "maintenance".This could be to blame. Its definately causing registration delays for new customers.

The maintenance is an update to the Harmony billing system which is being applied over the next few days - at present, read-only access is available but no changes/creation of accounts can take place. Therefore, thats no new cable modem provisioning accounts (i.e. no broadband registration) and for those customers that are billed from Harmony no package changes to telco/dtv/broadband until probably 12/04 but could be as late as 15/04 before things are back up and running.

Personally if it was up to me all customers would have been migrated to ICMS, a beast to use but a very flexible and stable beast, none of this Microsoft .net pap with outages lasting days at a time!

Oh, and Swansea is not billed from Harmony either, but either way the changes to the billing system will not be causing any service outages.

Re: Intermittent Problem in Swansea Area

Looking at the traceroute working and one failing I'd guesstimate there was an issue between these two hops:

5 22 ms 32 ms 13 ms win-bb-b-so-700-0.inet.ntl.com [62.253.185.142]
6 16 ms 15 ms 32 ms bre-bb-a-so-100-0.inet.ntl.com [62.253.185.197]

Once that issue was resolved all was sweetness and light again. Probably dirty fibre, dodgy transmission card or something equally dull

If its an update to harmony then why are people in swansea affected by it?
