What Speed? 2mb or 10mb.. confused
as soon as i noticed 10mb was available i upgraded to it. it then said on was on 10mb which in my eyes was correct... i only have an sb4100 so i asked my mum to call NTL and get a new modem so i could get full speed, when she foned they said we don't need 1 since we are only on 2mb which is fine for our modem. i told my mum this is wrong as i know i upgraded to 10mb. she showed me a bill and it was infact the price for the 2mb... i just went on the ntl site to try to upgrade and it said i'm on 10mb - the highest.
i get upload speeds of about 60kbps and 500kbps on average on my modem, thats too fast for 2mb anyway right???
gunna phone the CS tomorrow but looks like i'm getting 10mb for price of 2mb and i dnt know how or why...if they find out they can't charge me the extra cash right, i mean its not my fault?? will be hard to explain tht we need a new modem coz i'm on 10mb when it shows them i'm on 2mb

Yep that sounds like correct speeds - for your Modem anyway.

What could have possibly happened is your speed was increased but the billing side wasnt changed.
They wont backcharge you if you pick up on it before they do.
If you need a new modem, you will be charged for it coz the modem isnt faulty and NTL only replace them if they are faulty. Think a replacement modem is £50 plus a call out charge of £25. However, the call out charge may be included withing the £50 - not 100% sure on that

Offer the engineer a coffee and biscuits, when he's done, bill him £75 for refreshments.
Ntl are starting to charge for everything, its time for joe public to strike back.

Re: What Speed? 2mb or 10mb.. confused
if they try to backdate it, i wont pay, simple as that! i upgraded in the legal/correct way and left it at that, for them not to change the billing has absolutly nothing to do with me. I have in noway tried to con them or get their services for free... i only just clicked onto the problem last night when i posted on here, either way i want a modem, but if they think i'm paying £25 call out charge they can think again... i know how to install a modem myself so they can post the damn thing. Technically i should be happy about this situation.. but i'm not!!!!!

Well expect your services to be cut off and the bailiffs to come and find you

It is to do with you, you haven't been paying for a service you've been receiving, knowingly or not. (I know some that have managed to get out of that)

They won't do that.
Im not siding with NTL here, just posting the way they'll see it.

Re: What Speed? 2mb or 10mb.. confused
If you havent been reciving the service you CAN NOT be billed for it.
Doesnt matter what NTL or other in here say legaly you are not liable for something you have not received.
NTL will probably cut you off but you just tell them you want to cancel all your services and they soon start offering you stuff for free.
I have had legal dealings with NTL and they talk out of their ass 99% of the time.

Re: What Speed? 2mb or 10mb.. confused
you may have read it wrong mate... whats happening is i upgraded to 10mb, but we recently phoned them for a modem so we can take full advantage of 10mb but she sed we dont need it coz we're on 2mb, after checking the bill what she said was right we're only paying for 2mb, but when i done a speed check and tried to upgrade it told me i was already on 10mb...
so when i tell them, they r gunna try n charge us for the money we owe them, when it was their fault.

Re: What Speed? 2mb or 10mb.. confused
actually your problem is similiar to mine back in november/december it was fixed with the aid of this forum.
I upgraded to 10meg, modem could only do 6meg, rang up my billing showed 2 meg and guy was saying i didnt have 10meg. My case tho I lost the 10 meg service and was forcedbly downgraded so was a bit worse.
