Broadband & Phone Not In Earls Court
Hi
I'm moving to a property that has already been cabled for NTL and I've been told that only Digital TV is available to the property. However, I still have to pay for a telephone service (no capacity, but I've got to pay for it anyway - cheeky!).
I don't really care whether I have a phone service or not, but I'm quite keen for broadband - does anyone have any idea how I would find out when broadband will be available in Earls Court SW5? The operator on the phone said soon, but couldn't give me a time frame!
Also, why wouldn't there be any phone capacity if the property is already cabled?
Apologies if this isn't the right forum to ask, feel free to shift it!

Re: Broadband & Phone Not In Earls Court
Is it an apartment or flat that is only cabled for Digital? If so you have more of a complaint with the landlord than anything. Just because cable is down in a location it doesn't follow that all the necessary network hardware is in place to connect that site to the main NTL network.
Someone will no doubt mooch along this evening who will be in a good position to tell you yes or no to the area being cabled in fully.

It's likely to be in a former Videotron area of London, which aren't all broadband capable yet (although it's a lot better than it used to be).

Re: Broadband & Phone Not In Earls Court
Sorry, I should clarify.... There's a BT line, but NTL say they can only supply digital tv and nothing else. Obviously, I'd like to take a package and I have to pay for a phone service (which they can't supply)...

Re: Broadband & Phone Not In Earls Court
The prices for DTV are just that, if you live in a telco provisionable area then they can include that in the rental for the television.
As for it not being available, occasionally the cabinet in the area you're moving into can be at capacity, meaning that they can't physically provide a telephone service. Unfortunately as the free line rental is provided as a bonus for people with DTV (where available) it means that the price for TV stays the same...

That's what I meant basically, where available.

Its not just you that has this problem. I have a friend who had to have an NTL line fitted as they wouldn't fit the TV without it, so it just sits there with nothing plugged in, nothing gained, nothing lost.

Re: Broadband & Phone Not In Earls Court
No, it's digital tv..... apparently it's a capacity issue that they can't supply a telephone service and broadband isn't in the area just yet.
I guess what I really want to know is when Earls Court is likely to have broadband and what are the chances of getting a phone service in the near future if there's no capacity for the building.
Unfortunately, the NTL operators can't tell me other than it's coming! (So is Christmas)
