1MB Broadband pricing?

I am currently paying £17.99 per month for 1Mb Broadband with NTL. I drove past a van this morning which said 1Mb Broadband for £12.49 per month. There was no mention of this being for new customers or anything like that. Looking on the NTL website it says that 1Mb Broadband can be ordered for £7.99 for the first month so this is different again.

Has there been a price change or is one planned?

Also, about a year ago when the £17.99 per month option was upgraded to 1Mb, more upgrades were talked about for existing customers in the same bands. Is anything happening on that? One year ago 1Mb Broadband for £17.99 pm was good value. One year on it isn't so good compared to what is available.

About the £12.49 Broadband, this is all i can find
Doesn't say much, and you have to pay £2 to see the full advert!

Thanks Pia - yes that's the same panel ad they had on the NTL van this morning. It didn't say anything else but I see on the one you found you can see it says something about having to take their talk unlimited phone package as well.

Thanks though!

So I wonder if NTL are going to give speed upgrades to existing customers soon to match what the competitors are offering?

Re: 1MB Broadband pricing?

I'm paying £9.99 for NTL's uncapped 1meg service. This was due to a special offer last summer - normal price is £17.99.

but of course by then NTL will have upgraded the 1meg tier to 10meg which will give me speeds around about the same level as dial up! lmao

Re: 1MB Broadband pricing?

I think it might be this offer - http://www.home.ntl.com/page/td2.

Not really 1Mb broadband for 12.49, but 1Mb broadband plus telephone line, plus free evening local calls for £24.99.

(the phone and free calls is normally 12.50, which would leave 12.49 for the broadband).

But sounds a reasonable deal.

Re: 1MB Broadband pricing?

Phone them up and say you are unhappy with the pricing as you can find a better deal elswere (especially if you have multiple services that will go aswell) and they are likely to offer you a better deal.
I have:
Talk Unlimited24 - £14.5
Linerental - £0.00
1Meg BB - £9.99
Total = £24.49
They offerd me this as I was going to swap my TU24 for Vonage (£9.99) - Total with BB = £27.98

Yes but look at this way you need a phone line and they are £10.50 pcm so lets make it fair, 1/2 of that is for BB and 1/2 for talking on. so hey your BB has just gone up to £19.99, not so cheap now is it.
Also a lot of these ISP's are advertising "uncapped" BB but you look in the small print and you will find that they have a "fair usage policy".

which i would argue is fair if they dont take it to far infact maybe NTL should have a fair usage policy on the 10mbit rather than a 75 GB cap, but that is for another thread.

at the prices they charge ISPS cannot afford to have the infrastucture in place for everyone to have a 1:1 contention.
