250 modem query
I'd appreciate some advice for a friend of mine who's on ntl. (I'm a former ntl customer, long since migrated to DSL when I moved house).
She wants to use a wireless access point, (a D-Link DWL-700AP). I'm trying to find out if her ntl:250 modem has any kind of routing function built in on the PC side, or does she need a separate router? I can't find any technical info on the 250 on ntl's website.
I'm reasonably certain that the modem simply presents the public IP address on the PC side like my one used to (Motorola Surfboard 4100)
but just wanted to check in case things have changed.
TIA
Jay

Yes you right, she would be better with a wireless router than an acess point.
The modem simply requests an ip via dhcp and pass's this to the pc.

Re: 250 modem query
Thanks handyman & Nidge for your quick replies.
I see Staples have an offer of a Linksys bundle: WRK54G wi-fi router with a WPC54GV2 wi-fi PC card for £59.99. Just looking at the reviews on eBuyer, mainly OK but some adverse comments.
Which particular linksys router are you using Nidge?
Also, does anyone know if there's any kind of user manual or tech info available for the ntl:250 modem?

Re: 250 modem query
Ive bought a wireless router from eBuyer and mine works excellent with NTL. I think I paid £48 inc VAT for mine. It was a linksys one. I forget which one off the top of my head.
