NTL Terayon TJ210 drops Internet connection

My NTL Terayon TJ210 drops the Internet connection after about a day or a day and a half after setting it up. I'd prefer to have it connected to my Linksys router WRT54G so that i can share the internet with my other computers. The internet led goes out on the router and on the modem for no apparent reason then it's a nightmare to get it re-connected. I normally just end up plugging the USB lead back in and so am unable to share the internet.
Note it also drops the internet connection when I only have the modem connected to the pc with the Ethernet connection so it has nothing to do with the router.....I think.

have you tried a different ethernet cable as well? If so, then it sounds like it is a problem with the ethernet port on the cable modem, although strange that it should hold up for such a long period of time before dropping out.

Does wiggling the cable give you any life back?

Re: NTL Terayon TJ210 drops Internet connection

Have tried various ethernet cables but it still does it. I'd like NTL to change the modem but they don't seem to want to. I'll probably end up swapping to ADSL with another company if they dont this time.

I also lose my connection with my Terayon modem every few days. Never used to do it but now I sometimes just end up having to reboot my SMC router to cure it, it then goes back OK for a few more days. I've also noticed that I lose connections every few hours for a second or so. I use an application called DYNsite in conjunction with DYNDNS for my hosting, that keeps telling my that it loses connection to the DYN servers, then it comes back again... Strange really!!!

Re: NTL Terayon TJ210 drops Internet connection

My NTL200 modem drops the connection randomly as well, sometimes its fine for a few days and last night there were a few moments where it was dropping every few mins.

I have it connected by ethernet to a Linksys wireless router, I used to get away with just restarting the router but now I have to restart the modem.

So I would say there could be something wrong thats causing all these drop outs.

Just to update - when I say I lose my connection - I mean it goes off altogeter, it's not for a few minutes or that, It kicks me out completely and it does not ever reconnect without me setting it all up again. It's a complete pain.

Well, snap with problems with an SMC router and the Terayon (well, before it died), had to reboot the router (Wireless G, the pretty blue one) a lot. Never had a problems with the old SMC Barricade though.

Hmmm!, well mine is the old barricade version. I must check that I've got the latest firmware...

Re: NTL Terayon TJ210 drops Internet connection

I had similar problems, but it turned out to be the router and not the modem. I tried all sorts of firmware upgrades, but every so often it would drop. I would restart the router and bingo. Unless the cable light or ethernet light drops off your modem, you can bet it's the router.

I ended up speaking to the people in Linksys (in the Phillipines) and they admited it was the router after about 45 mins, and emailed me a very old version of firware. I installed this and have not had a problem since. That was several months ago. Big problems with the newer firware I think.
