I don't think it was an ntl issue - Sky didn't seem to be transmitting the widescreen signalling correctly. In any case, the signal appears to be corrected this morning.

I read that Sky relaunched it News serivce from a new studio in 16:9 format only
I guess that either there is a ratio transmission problem or some people might need to adjust there display settings on there TVs or decoder boxes?

nope checked it again and according to what my husband said as he is a broadcast engineer he said ntl need to ajust there sky news receiver that puts out there analogue feed to 16:9 so that people with wide screen tvs can watch it or they need to ajust it to 4:3 letter box mode so that people with 4:3 tvs can watch it with black bars on top and bottem and then people with 16:9 tvs can use 16:9 zoom on there tv's to get the full pic on there screen,

is there a way of reporting this the ntl?

It's not a fault. Analogue signals from ntl are broadcast in 4:3 cut-off mode - if you look at BBC News 24, you'll see the same thing. The box will be right in the bottom-left corner of the screen instead of about two inches in as it would be in a 16:9 picture.

so why dont they put them out in 4:3 letter box mode so people with 16:9 and 4:3 tvs can see the whole pic it would make more sence

If a 16:9 picture is letterboxed on a 4:3 TV, then 25% of the screen area is wasted due to the black bars. In fact it's worse than that because the broadcasters don't put any useful content at the sides of the pictures. (Look where they put the banners and logos on Sky News or BBC News 24).

But if STB zooms the picture to 14:9 (like the Samsung box will do when set to "4:3 letterbox"), this increases the useful picture area to around 85% of the screen.

"4:3 normal" zooms the picture even more so 100% of the TV screen area shows useful content.

Sky news looks downgraded to me, the studio seems worse and I dont like the new look, is this a budget cut designed as a new era in news reporting
