Tivo keeps clicking

Why does my Virginmedia Tivo make constant clicking sounds while it's in standby. It's very irritating. Could the hard drive be on the way out?

Possibly. Can you still record programmes?

Yes! Everything else seems to be working OK (apart from the awful slowness that we are all experienceing ). It's just the persistence clicking noise when it's in standby.

Re: Tivo keeps clicking

Then I don't see it being a hard drive problem.

Re: Tivo keeps clicking

Put something soft under the feet to absorb any vibration. Be careful not to block the vents though.

But if you feel it is unacceptably noisy, call the VM faults team.

Re: Tivo keeps clicking

mines same.. im waiting for this new V6 box to come out and then I will ditch the damn TiVo box in the lounge... as long as its not £200 a box to replace.

First one I had since it came out as a brand new TiVo box.

lasted years...worked perfectly... no odd noises, then packed in... wouldn't even switch on.

then they replaced it with a refurbished unit via self install, it lasted a couple of months then hard drive failed in it.

the VM staff member on the community forums tried to imply that the hard drive had failed due to a problem with my installation or that I had done something to it... and refused to send me a self install box again... wanted an engineer to check my installation for themselves even though I didn't want an engineer and didn't need one at all.

engineer came, found nothing wrong with my installation other than waste my time and their own time when a self install box would of been sufficient, installed another refurbished unit and ever since its been clicking away from the hard drive.. just waiting for the day for it to fail again then back to the arguments when they wont send me a self install box again... if it fails before the V6 box comes I will just unplug it and swap another box from another room I think.

at least when the V6 box comes out I will get a brand new box instead of some refurbished rubbish.

I wouldn't bet on it. It's usual to replace like for like.

Re: Tivo keeps clicking

I expect this to be the case too.

A new customer has posted that his main box is a V6, but the secondary box supplied was the old version.

You'd think that by now we would have invented a PVR with no mechanical parts:

Even if I pay to upgrade they will still give me a TiVo box?

The new V6 Has a hard drive fitted to the bottom of the box as VM will at some point go cloud based so a hard drive was fitted to the base of the new STB. So it already has no moving parts.
