Re: VM 256 modem and Dlink wireless router

It was never issued to tiers above 20Mbps. After that Virgin Media would require you to have new kit for faster broadband speeds.

The VM issued D-Link router has 100Mbps ports so even if you connected it to newer kit, it would max out at around 98Mbps

Thanks Ben,
I will tell my friend who said that he was on the fastest speed which accepted but to day he had problems with his Wi-Fi and I looked at his modem only find the VM 256 modem and Dlink router, I guess he needs to phone VM and get it replaced with as SH according to which tier he is on.

Would he need to phone 150 or 151 to arrange the SH?

Re: VM 256 modem and Dlink wireless router

yup, it was quality back in the day though, I never had a single problem with it and I always got full speed which was 20mbits at the time. I had to ditch it for the vmng300 when 50mbits came out because a) it was a single channel modem and b) 50mbits was on docsis3 exclusively and the ambit256 was a docsis 2 modem.

Just to clarify, it can theoretically do 26Mbps but Virgin will never provision it above 20Mbit
