Strange Issue - 200Mbit
Every so many days I have to reboot our SHUB2AC to go back to near full speeds. We're in modem mode and this still happens. I speedtest at about 50mbit, reboot and go back to near full speeds. Any ideas?

Re: Strange Issue - 200Mbit
it is a known issues with the shub2ac (as it was with shub1) and it will take them a year or two to get fixed. If it is doing your head in I suggest you ring up and ask for a shub2 (which doesn't have the problem) and if you need wireless ac get a proper router and put the shub2 in modem mode.

We already have it in modem mode. I'm using an Asus ac68

50Mb suggests you only have one downstream channel locked? As 50Mb is the usable bandwidth of a single channel. Check your hub's downstream stats and the network log.
When you reboot it will reconnect to all the channels.
All superhubs do this as part of normal network operation when there are problems with the network channels:

Usually this happens in areas that are highly utilised by lots of users.

Never had that problem with my SH1 or SH2ac (when I was on 150Mb). My SH2 behaved the same as my SH2ac.

I'm not aware of any known issue with either the 2 or 2ac and any of the available speeds, and there are no restrictions for customers with either bit of kit moving to any available tier.
Where have you got your information from that it's a known issue?

The 2AC is identical to the 2 apart from having an ac 5GHz card instead of an n one as far as I know?

One of the Headend engineers in my franchise believes it has a different operating chipset although I'm not totally sure

Yup. Almost, apart from the firmware version running on it. Which is why a SH2ac is actually better for some things than a SH2.
The wifi cards and ethernet chips were slightly different though. See specs below.

Both are Puma 5 SoC. Though some slight differences with other silicon.

Maybe he's thinking of the early SH2's from TI, before Intel took over:
These would have been used for early trials (mostly internal).

my words were chosen poorly. It may not be a known issue then as far as VM are concerned (which means it is going to take even longer to fix ) but this is the third of fourth time very recently I have heard of the shub2ac locking up over a 1-2 day period and a reset is the only thing to fix it, and then it all happens over again. It definitely isn't an isolated incident.

Re: Strange Issue - 200Mbit
I reboot daily but still can't get better than 85mbps with the 2ac. I used to get a solid 100mbps until I was given the "free upgrade" to 150mbps a few days ago. In router mode and hard wired around the house.

Re: Strange Issue - 200Mbit
Reliable devices like the SH2ac "lock up" if something happens in the circuit. So modem stats and network log are a good idea, as would be the Thinkbroadband BQM.
I have been running a SH2ac since it's day 1, in modem mode with an ac68 and, now at 200 meg, there hasn'tr been a hiccup.

Try the Superhub in router mode, observe and report back.

As I said on your thread on the community forum, yours looks like an over-utilised circuit. No surprise there. Changing your Superhub won't help with that.

Re: Strange Issue - 200Mbit
It did the same in router mode. Sometimes (when in router mode) it would require a reboot as it seemed to hard lock. Now in modem mode it just seems to drop speed.

Re: Strange Issue - 200Mbit
I just had about 20 minutes of total loss of connection. Unable to connect to any site with any browser.
Ditto the other PCs in the house (hardwired).
Shub2ac network log showed nothing. Thinkbroadband monitor showed nothing.
All the lights were on including the flashing traffic LED.

Re: Strange Issue - 200Mbit
next time you need to do some pings and trying pinging another pc on the network, ping the router and then ping something like google at 8.8.8.8 so you can try and narrow down where the issue is.
