India Mars Probe Mangalyaan Blasts Off
So a country we give millions and millions of pounds to can afford to send a probe to mars. Just shows what is wrong with giving money to other country's and why we are still the mugs we are for doing it.

Quote:
An Indian rocket has blasted off on the country's first mission to Mars as it aims to become the only Asian nation to reach the Red Planet.
The rocket carrying the unmanned probe took off at 9.08am GMT from the Sriharikota spaceport, close to Chennai.
It entered orbit around Earth 44 minutes later, the country's space agency confirmed.
The gold-coloured probe, which weighs 1,350kg (2,976lb), is about the size of a small car and is being carried by a 350-tonne rocket - much smaller than the US or Russian equivalents.

At least we know, and we can say that it was our rocket.
Dave should give them some more money for another few more rockets. and put our taxes up.

I await the arrival of those who still think it is a good idea to fund country's like this who can afford to build nuclear bombs and send rockets to Mars. Meanwhile we cut benefits and treat our OAP's like ****

Re: India Mars Probe Mangalyaan Blasts Off
according to a 'bod' (sorry I can't remember the name) on SkyNews earlier, this venture will bring in more money for India so for them to invest the same amount into health care would have been pointless.. apparently. Also India spent a lot less on this venture than the western countries due to not having countless multi million pound meetings over crap, basically get on with it.

India hopes to find evidence of methane when it reaches the planet.
The existence of the gas would lend weight to the idea of Mars being able to support life

I'd say they're hoping to send them all up there.

I am so disappointed in him, so out of touch.
Not that I want millipede let anywhere near the levers of power or Clegg to ever get any leverage as he's a loony.
Where's a decent leader to fight for the common man?
|
Indeed. Hence the rise in UKIP support I guess.
At least Millipede is starting to talk the talk, if it wasn't on a run up to an election I might even take him seriously

Meanwhile, in news from 12 months ago:
Quote:
The UK is to end financial aid to India by 2015, international development secretary Justine Greening has said.
Support worth about £200m ($319m) will be phased out between now and 2015 and the UK's focus will then shift to offering technical assistance.
Ms Greening said the move, which will be popular with Tory MPs, reflected India's economic progress and status.

I assume at least some of those who will welcome this (old) news, will at least accept that in withdrawing aid, the UK has to give sufficient notice to those organisations, and Indian government departments, that may already have planned and budgeted for it, and that 2015 is a reasonable deadline for that.
Also, from the same article:
Quote:
India spends £70bn on its social welfare budget, compared with £2.2bn on defence and £780m on space exploration.
|
So it's not as if they're sitting back and letting us handle their entire welfare and development bill for them.
The Coalition took the correct decision last year.

Now we need to stop aid to another country that can afford a weapons program it does not need. Pakistan springs to mind !
Quote:
Finally, on 28 May 1998, a few weeks after India's second nuclear test (Operation Shakti), Pakistan detonated five nuclear devices in the Ras Koh Hills in the Chagai district, Balochistan. This operation was named Chagai-I by Pakistan, the underground iron-steel tunnel having been long-constructed by provincial Martial Law Administrator General Rahimuddin Khan during the 1980s. The last test of Pakistan was conducted at the sandy Kharan Desert under a codename Chagai-II, also in Balochistan, on May 30, 1998. Pakistan's fissile material production takes place at Nilore, Kahuta, and Khushab/Jauharabad, where weapons-grade plutonium is made by the scientists. Pakistan thus became the 7th country in the world to successfully develop and test nuclear weapons.[12] There are also reports that the nuclear weapon technology and the weapon-grade enriched uranium was transferred to Pakistan by China.[13]

Quote:
The UK government has announced plans to end aid to India by 2015, but at the same time the amount of money going to its neighbour Pakistan is set to soar from £267 million now to £446 million in 2014/15, making it the biggest recipient of foreign aid.

At least they have good well funded nuclear weapons
