A search is under way in waters between Malaysia and Vietnam after a Malaysia Airlines plane vanished on a flight to Beijing, with 239 people on board.

Malaysia Airlines said in a statement that flight MH370 had disappeared at 02:40 local time on Saturday (18:40 GMT on Friday) after leaving Kuala Lumpur.

there are reports emerging that some passengers may have boarded using stolen on fake passports

http://news.sky.com/story/1222674/ma...s-near-vietnam

Quote:
The airline listed one of the passengers on the plane as a 37-year-old Italian called Luigi Maraldi.

However Mr Maraldi has contacted his parents to say he was not on the airliner.

He had his passport stolen in Thailand several months ago, leaving questions over who used his passport to board the plane and whether that has anything to do with the airliner's disappearance.

Mr Miraldi's father said his son's passport had been stolen a year and a half ago while he was travelling in Thailand.

Big chance the stolen passport was being used to smuggle rather than any other unthinkable act.

Hmm, drops off the radar with no mayday.
If it wasn't a bomb, then it was an equally rapid total system or structural failure:
The suspects:
1. Bomb
2. Catastrophic and total failure
3. Pilot suicide

If you have ever watched Aircrash Investigation, and I have watched everyone, I find it fascinating. You would know there are far more reasons than that.

The most common cause being pilot error. In so far as pilot incorrectly responding to a certain situation, such as a systems malfunction.

4. Electronics failure with caused loss of instruments and lights, and as it was at night and at sea flew in to the sea, (it has been recorded that disorientation can happen at night and pilots don't fly straight and level)

5. Maintenance not carried out correctly, (some aircraft are not maintained to the best standards, and several are banned from European airspace).

The trouble is in any situation outside normal flight, they have a check-list book they go through and this can take time.

That the Hudson he followed the book, the procedure to ditch was 6 pages long, he only got to the top of page 3, page 6 had a vent switch to close (which would stop sea water entering the airplane) but didn't have time.

Indeed, and another where the external air speed sensor was blocked by an insect nest.

But these instances, along with other similar types, are not what crashed he plane. It was the pilot not responding correctly to the misleading information being given to him.

Modern aircraft have redundancy in virtually every system, and multiple inputs of information that can be consulted.

In today's modern aircraft people think that they can pretty much fly themselves, but ultimately it is the pilot that has to respond if there is any issue.

Re: Malaysian Airline plane disappears

Lots of reasons to travel on fake passports not related to terrorism.

EDIT: Would be somewhat odd to blow a plane out of the sky and not claim responsibility. Defeats the point of terrorism if you don't try and inflict some terror by broadcasting what you've done far and wide.

Kinda scary that it just dissapeared, without any emergency/may day call.
