Poor wifi performance.

Having terrible wifi performance recently. The Superhub is in modem mode and am using the DIR615 router.

We are on the 100 meg service and this is a typical wifi connection speed no matter what device is using wifi.

Also this reading was taken on a laptop with 802 11n wifi in a direct line of sight to the router at a distance of about 6 feet.

You need to break your problem down...

1. What speeds do you get when connected to the DIR615 with a cable? If fast then investigate the wireless issue, if slow then...
2. What speeds do you get with a PC plugged into the SH in modem mode? If slow then there's (possibly) a VM issue, if fast then there's a problem with your DIR615

Personally I've given up using speedtest.net as testing with most of their servers give erroneous readings. I now use JDast

Re: Poor wifi performance.

OK thanks for the info.

This is the speedtest result with the same laptop using Ethernet connection to the DIR615.

This is the first time I have noticed a poor wired connection speed too.

Other speedcheckers are giving similar results.

Re: Poor wifi performance.

OK done that but I cant find how to copy and paste the results so on a wired connection it is 1.5 downstream and 4.0 upstream.

next steps...
  1. ensure that you turned OFF the wifi when doing the wired speedtest and test again
  2. reboot shub, router and machine and try again

LOL - that's hy the dial only goes up to 20 meg (though it does report the higher speeds)?

A good speed test is Jack Dinn'e JDAST. Has graphical and CSV outpuits and multithreads the data.
