Unhappy Am I Getting The Service I'm Paying For?

I recently upgraded to 100MB from 50MB I do a speed test every now and then and it does seem like its always around the 100MB. The same can't be said about the download speed especially when torrenting. I always torrent after midnight and noticed when downloading a torrent that it was stuck on 1.3MB download speed. I Then added another torrent and that seemed capped as well at exactly 1.3MB. (wired connection) Does anyone know what download speed i should be getting on 100MB?

You should see around 12MB/s download speeds with a 100Mbit connection. The problem with torrents is that you rely on the seeders to get a good speed. Your torrents are likely capped at 1.3MB/s because there isn't enough seeders for you to max out your 100Mbit connection.

Have you checked that the download value is set to 0 (Unlimited)?

1) like robson said, your torrent speed is entirely dependant on other users uploading to you so it is very hit and miss. If you use sites like TPB you'll get a few hundred k/sec but if you use private sites which use a credit based system and encourage people to share them you'll get full speed
2) that being said VM manage p2p traffic up and till midnight everyday and all weekend and flag it as low priority so you'll only get what little juice is left on your network segment
3) I hate to sound like one of the anal nut bags but you "shouldn't be getting" any guaranteed speed on 100mbit. You should be able to achieve up to 100mbit (~12MB/sec) which is what I can do most of the time, but it has to be from the right sources. Most of my http downloads run between 1-2MB/sec and Steam between 3 and 4. The only time I ever max out my connection is when I use torrents or newsgroups and even when the speed is available at the other end, you have got to hope the return path isn't congested all the way back to your house.

Re: Am I Getting The Service I'm Paying For?

I've NEVER come close to 12MB/sec downloads in the 2-3 months Ive been on 100MB. I download from different sites even downloading demos &games of xbox live but never ever come close to 12 MB/sec!! It just feels like I'm getting the same download speeds from when I was on 50MB. Ive just noticed I capped uTorrent on 8MB I'll change that and see if there is any difference. I know all about Virgin Media's traffic management policy's! which is why I only download torrents after midnight on my Microserver which I connected wiredly so I could get the maximum speed. I'm just dissapointed with 100MB atmo thought I'd be getting a better service...[COLOR="Silver"]

Is there anywhere I can go to check my download speed. I'd connect remotely to my Micro-server which is wired to the router so there would be no wireless issue's
