How to extend the range of the 30Mb modem / router

Hi all,

Just got off the phone to Virgin technical who don't seem to be able to help me with my query. I'm currently on a 10Mb connection but want to upgrade to 30Mb. I do not use the wireless router that Virgin originally supplied as I needed a wireless repeater in my loft to be able to get wifi in other parts of the house (very thick walls). I just use the Virgin cable modem and a pair of Netgear Rangemwax WPN824 v3 routers which I managed to configure without too much trouble.

I asked Virgin if I could keep the pair of WPN824 v3 if I upgraded to 30Mb but they told me that I would require a new modem / router and as this was all combined in one device then I would not be able to use my Netgear repeater.

This is a big problem for me as essentially means I cannot get the range I need so am stuck with 10Mb.

Can anybody tell me the make and model of the Virgin 30Mb modem / router? I'm thinking if it's Netgear I might have a chance of configuring it to accept the repeater - can anybody confirm if there appears to be any options in the settings for wireless repeaters?. Or has anybody ever manged to successfully configure a different repeater with the Virgin kit? It seems crazy to me that Virgin have not considered this requirement and have a solution for it.

If you get the superhub, which I think you will, you can operate it in modem mode and use your own wireless router as before.

Ah! Sounds like it should be a simple solution then. Thanks for the reply.
