My Linksys router loses 10mb

Hi
I have a Linksys WRT54GS V7 router(Firmware: DD-WRT v24-sp2 (10/10/09) micro) and my connection drops 10mb to 40mb on a 50mb connection, if I connect modem directly to pc I get back to a 50 mb connection, does anyone know if there is some tuning I need to do or where my 10mb have gone, I used to get 50mb through the modem but last few months it has dropped to a steady 40mb.

Re: My Linksys router loses 10mb

buy a cheap D Link 615 which you can flash with dd wrt

or

wait a couple of weeks and invest in TP-Links new router > http://www.tp-link.com/uk/products/d...el=TL-WR2543ND

Re: My Linksys router loses 10mb

I don't know about that particular model but I had a WRT54G before I even had ADSL so they are pretty long in the tooth. From memory the DD WRT website gives the specs of lots of routers which it supports and if you check my betting is that yours will turn out to be pretty low spec and simply can't cope. The answer, as has already been suggested, is to upgrade to something less than a decade old.

Re: My Linksys router loses 10mb

Although the router is oldish I could not see much improvement on newer versions.

Re: My Linksys router loses 10mb

I don't know as I haven't checked the specs and don't have mine any more - just a box full of old ADSL routers which I really should put on eBay and a couple of modern cable routers both of which deliver me the full monty from my 50Mbps cable.

I'm assuming you see the drop from a straight cable swap so that your PC isn't suspect. One thing worth checking is if you have QoS set on - that can naff things up big time if you've set the wrong upstream.

Re: My Linksys router loses 10mb

a jump to the d link 615 is an improvement. a jump to the new tp link is an even bigger improvement.

Re: My Linksys router loses 10mb

i had exactly the same problem with the same router when i got 50mbit dude, apart from mine wouldn't go above 25mbit. I upgraded to what was the latest model at the time, the wrt150n, and now i have no probs whatsoever.
