HDMI to DVI

Hi, This is my first post so I'm sure there is a thread like this out there but I need a solution quickly. I've just have the virgin guys in and installed an HD Box, the thing is my old LG (about 6 or 7 years of age) doesn't have an HDMI, I have bought a HDMI / DVI converter but when it loads HD then there is no sound so I'm watching in normal def with sound or HD without? do I need a new TV or just a new cable? cheers Phil

Re: HDMI to DVI

Even cheaper... just go into the display & audio settings on the V+, and turn the "HDMI audio override" off

ps. Welcome to the forum!

Re: HDMI to DVI

How are you getting the audio out of the box? Which model box is it anyway?

Do you get sound on ITV1HD?

Re: HDMI to DVI

Hi, if you look in the General TiVo Discussion thread 2, page 284 there is some info on this that helped me, mostly from spiderplant. Link below.

Hope this helps.

Re: HDMI to DVI

Oh, I see. I thought you meant you only had sound missing on HD channels.

DVI only supports video, not audio, so you need another way to get the sound to the TV. Your TV should have a separate audio input that's used together with DVI - probably either phonos or a stereo jack socket. Check the TV manual.

Then you need to buy a new lead to take the audio from the VCR SCART socket on the V+, to the TV. Usually one of these two will do the trick:

http://www.maplin.co.uk/scart-to-3.5...t-switch-43876

On either of these cables, leave the yellow plug dangling. It carries composite video, which you don't need.

Re: HDMI to DVI

Thank you very much, you may have just saved me £500 on a new TV, her in doors isn't happy with me anyway.
