Phone call from Virgin Media
Hi
Hope this is the right place to post this.
I had a phone call on Saturday, supposedly from VM, saying that they had some "good news" for me.
I am always suspicious when this kind of thing happens. They wanted to know some characters from my password. I never give anything out like this when someone calls me. I just tell them to write to me, or email me with the address they hold on file for me.
Do VM make calls like this? If they do, has anyone any idea what they might have been offering?
It always infuriates me when we are always being told never to give out personal information to cold callers, yet even my bank calls me, and asks for security information! They get told the same thing!

Re: Phone call from Virgin Media
I got a similar call last. She said they had been looking at my call charges and could suggest a way of reducing my costs. She knew what services I had (size of TV, broadband and phone etc) so I had no reason to believe she wasn't genuine.
Then she wanted a couple of characters from my password. I ask her why and was told it was to verify who I was. I pointed out that they had called me, not the other way around, and I didn't see why I should give a password.
She got a bit shrty and said I had left her with no option but to end the call. Goodbye.

Re: Phone call from Virgin Media
i've also been receiving calls from an 0800 number from Virgin media. It was on my work number though (which I can't recall giving to VM?). Told her to try me again on my home number - got very suspicious when she then asked for my home number which being a virgin number I suggested she should have....I then hung up & have ignored multiple other attempts from them!!

Re: Phone call from Virgin Media
Turns out my calls where genuine and they were really trying to find ways for me to save money...
I phoned customer services to find out and they said I could save on my phone calls by going for the unlimited call package for an extra £3 per month. I didn't think this would be of use as I only ever make £2-£3 of calls a month. It was a bit of a shock when she said my call charges in last months bill were £80!
I've had a look online at my bill and requested a breakdown (after recovering from my own little breakdown). Something's gone wrong somewhere.

Thanks for letting me know. I am already on unlimited calls anyway, but I will look closely at my recent bills.

Re: Phone call from Virgin Media
Got a call a couple of weeks ago. Went through my services. Wanted to find out if I knew about or used any of the extras (On Demand, V-Stuff etc). Tried to flog me some services I didn't want, but I took the opportunity to do some haggling and managed to double my broadband speed and reduce my monthly bill by £4 in the process.

Re: Phone call from Virgin Media
Were any off you who got the offer near the end of your contracts?
You'll probably find you are now in new contracts saving Virginmedia having to give you a very good retentions package.

I'm on a new contract for the TV when I upgraded to V+ back in Feb. As far as the BB, no, I wasn't in contract, and I'm still not.
