That will generate more fly tipping and will cost them a lot more in the long run so a bad idea.

As you said people will just fill their bins over a period of time, I have done that in past myself.

Just closed one local to me, all ways very busy the nearest ones are now a ten mile round trip. And yes tipping is on the increase.

I always said they'd make recycling compulsory when they started it all off.
and they did.

and I always said they'd then charge you for saving the planet.

in the video they tell you to seperate the rubbish into where each thing goes. even the big bottle bank.

they can sort the bloody stuff out themselves if they want to charge me.

apart from that. has anyone ever put green bottles into the brown and vice versa for a laugh?

I have mixed feelings about this .On one hand we do pay council tax and a portion of which is for household rubbish removal ,bulky waste such as sofas ,fridges ect are usually charged anyway if the council come and pick them up ,i think some councils allow 3 pickups a year then charge .The question is should we expect the council to collect or dispose of settees fridges ect free of charge ,i don't think those sort of items can be classed as every day household waste so i think they have a case for charging

They pick them up free of charge because they know that people will just leave them out on the street otherwise.

most tips are recycling. all the stuff is sorted into seperate materials.

there's 3 options.
1- close the sites make people redundant and watch all the rubbish pile up all over the place.
2- make your money and charge people, but don't expect people to sort the stuff.
3- carry on as you were, and stop coming up with money making schemes at the expense of the council tax payer all the time.

just checked my council and they charge after 3 pickups per year for bulky items.I can go to my local office and get 10 vouchers to take my own bulky rubbish down to the tip in my van if i need more than 10 then i have to pay

Fines for residents who break the rules on rubbish collections in England are to be scrapped, the BBC has learned.
Environment Secretary Caroline Spelman is expected to announce next month that the charges will be outlawed in all but the most serious cases of fly-tipping.
Meanwhile, ministers have warned councils against "charging by the back-door" for refuse services.
This includes forcing residents to buy "official" rubbish sacks from the council rather than other suppliers.

They are allowed to charge for bulky items.They always have.Councils who do so free are being kind.

The new issue now is that they cannot 'fine' anyone for putting the 'wrong' rubbish in the wrong 'recycling' bin.

So the fact that my council wants to move us to fortnightly bin collections and that they might now be able to charge for using a local tip, I think they will have a big big big problem with fly tipping. The lawn of the town hall sounds a good place to start or the garden of our local Labour councillor .

and make sure it's the foulest of garden refuse to .

when i worked on the landfill sites i'd say about 60-65% of the unloads were council wagons. and the amount of stuff that could have been recycled was unbelievable, and yet they want us to pay them for the privilege of doing their work for them by sorting the recycled stuff - must be a health and safety thing. for instance where the mother-in-law lives comes under chester council and they have to sort everything into separate bins (paper/plastic etc - sure there is a green one for garden stuff to), where as all we have is one general bin for recycling which takes everything - although only collected every two weeks is a bit naff as ours can be full after 4-5 days.

so if councils want us to do the sorting and all they do is dump straight to site........................what is the point of them having recycling sorting centres, and shouldn't they be paying us?

another thing is that nearly all these landfill are privately run by a few major waste companies - WRG/Viridor/Biffa/Sita and all the council does is the collect and dump, well not exactly as they sub out a lot of the collections to these companies (thought i'd mention that for the hell of it) but these companies can still sort recycling out and on lots of sites they generate electricity by burning the gas and selling it back to the grid.


there are parallels here...........costs nothing to be wasteful and non-organinc (best word i could come up with) as opposed to being green and organic. and in todays climate (no pun intended) it's a difficult personal choice.

It is totally unfair that they are now seeking for us to pay twice, once in tax and then in useage fees.

If they want us to pay for stuff at use, then scrap the council tax. We can all bung the fire brigade £100 when they turn up, £10 to get the police officer to walk down your street ..... Yes that may seem impractical but why the hell should we be paying twice so they can charge us through the backdoor for stuff they should be providing.

quite right, i'm sure that if you look up the term wasteful in a the dictionary you will see the description.......................councils/local authorities. perhaps they should take a hard look at their own waste before preaching to the rest of us.

Actually this rubbish business is a triangle between us/consumers,the councils and retailers.
If it was fairly dealt with the manufacturers/producers would be fined for not using real recyclables in their packaging as well as us being forced to recycle and councils having to ensure that ALL parties were doing their bit.
