Joanna Lumley labels British children's morals 'slack'

Actress Joanna Lumley has claimed that British children are being brought up with "slack" morals.

We have taken our foot off the education pedal, and I don't think it makes anyone happy. We don't respect education. Not at all. Not like in Africa or China, where it is hugely respected.

I have to say she pretty much covers some of my thoughts during the last 5 years.
What do you think?

Looks about right, and a nice list of things I'm trying to avoid bringing my little lady up.

I think she is absolutely right these days it is hard for parents to get positive things like decent morals into their kids and education is something that is seriously out of whack here compared to many other countries. As usual though it's easy to highlight the problem but the solution to it won't be so easy.

I think the problem is there is a lack of respect full stop through all ages

No one gives a toss about anyone else anymore ( generalising yes but still not wrong) and this is where the problem is everything else is a result of lack of respect

I'd agree with that, especially over say the last five years. There's very much a 'I'm all right screw you' mentality, you even see it filtering down to the gormless pedestrians who meander across the road, knowing you'll stop, or the (and I find this incredibly annoying) the ignorant people in supermarkets who'll quite happily block entire isles with 2 abreast trolleys and catch up on gossip, and get quite cross if you make them move so you can get past.

I find ignorance spans the ages, having had to brave a supermarket full of the older generation who were almost universally utterly ignorant.

It is of course entirely down to parenting. When a child struggles to find respect for the major adults in their life, their parents, what are the chances of them respecting others?

I think every older generation has had this revelation about the younger generation since we left the cave and built a mud hut .The older generation such as Lumleys were accused of exactly the same slack morals as she is accusing kids of today and the kids of today will no doubt accuse their kids of slack morals .Lumley needs to remember that her generation during the 50's and 60's were as promiscuous and disrespectfull as kids of today

Maybe so, but its no longer confined to children, it seems to have reached into all generations.

We may well have been promiscuous or so I heard.

But we were pretty respectful generally.

We were, however, specifically very respectful of the Police who were not at all PC in those days.
