Smile Laptop advice

Hi, looking for a new laptop and wondered what spec to aim for?
Regular use for the following;

Web browsing
ITunes
MS Office, home working occasionally
Managing photos

Won't be used for games.

Oh yes and not a netbook, min 15" screen?

I was thinking of a minimum 3Gb of RAM but not sure about the processor? AMD or Intel. AMD still seem cheaper? Any thoughts welcome.

Thanks for the reply, that has pretty confirmed by thoughts that i does not really matter that much. Does anyone else have any thoughts on AMD vs Intel ?

I will go for as much RAM as I can get for under £400.

Thanks,

Hedgie

Re: Laptop advice

Go for a Core i3 if you can get it in budget. I got a Tosh Satellite with i3 & 4GB for £405 on Amazon before Christmas but it's now showing as unavailable.

Re: Laptop advice

I just got a HP laptop from Comet for £350 should of been £380 but as I worked there I got a discount, but it has a 15.4" screen with a Intel dual core cpu at 2.0ghz with 3gb of DDR3 ram @ 1066mhz but, it can be upgraded to 8gb of ram for £100 which isn't bad for a laptop.

I use it for game admin software and web browsing etc, and it does it all fine and I even installed Call Of Duty 4 on it and it ran it at max detail at it's max resolution at 19fps minimum, not playable but not bad for a cheap laptop really.

http://www.comet.co.uk/p/Laptops/buy...-Laptop/676446

You maybe able to find something cheaper than that, that will do what you want but that laptop is a little cracker really very happy with it myself.

In the description I think it says DDR2 or somewhere it says it but when I did the Crucial memory scan and also looked at the stick's themselves the scan, says DDR3 and the sticks say PC3 1066mhz so thats how I know its DDR3 which again is not a bad inclusion for a laptop of that price.

Re: Laptop advice

Just noticed on the HP direct website, there is an AMD dual core with 3GB on offer for £349 incl a second year of warranty. That would nicely fit your requirements.
