Two Vboxes One Card - Possible?
My nan has become the owner of my plasma while i'm away. She had virgin media through a vbox to her tv. I thought i could simply order another vbox and she would be able to switch the card from each box so she could choose which room she wanted to watch tv in.
However her current smartcard doesn't work with the new vbox and gave a message saying it's not matched for that box.
Is there any way around this so she can just take out the card of one box then take it to the other box when she wishes?
Many thanks.

NO, Each card and STB are paired to each other and are NOT able to be used in other STB's.
So if your looking at buying off of E-bay, DON'T waste your money,(if thats the case of course).

That's pretty lame that my dearest nan can't watch tv in her living room then take the card upstairs to her bedroom and watch tv in bed.

No it is not lame it is the way the system works to prevent fraud.
If you need to watch upstairs then get a second box from Virginmedia with its own smartcard or a video sender from ARGOS.

It sounds more like more $ for virgin than preventing fraud. Forcing to pay extra per month for another service when she would never watch it in two places at once but would just like the option to move from one to another.

Chipped boxes are a completely separate issue here. All it would take is to allow the card to be paired to a maximum of two boxes. Perfectly reasonable.

If they did this, people could easily clone the card and use both boxes at the same time, probably at different properties.
Virgin's rules, afraid it's a case of like it or lump it.

No its not.
Where do we stop. How long before someone else wants to be able to do it for 3 boxes then 4 and so on.

You may think that it is reasonable, but the fact remains that you can only pair one box with its matching smartcard.
All cards are box specific and cannot be paired with a another box unless it is a replacement box which removes the old box off the account.
As I said above if you want 2 boxes then get another subscription or a digi sender.
