I have broken my wireless N adapter given with my netgear router, will Virgin give me another one free of charge?

you can try it but doubt it saying that the cards aren't that expensive

yeah true, you can pick them up at RipOffWorld aka PCWorld for £10-ish. i'll give them a call.
