As Zing says it should just work. As long as you have the correct NIC drivers (might come with Windows might not) then the default setting on the NIC will be to aquire an IP address and settings.

might be worth downloading new drivers for your system before you start

As the others say above just be careful and ensure that you have the drivers available for your network card, or does your machine have have a partition or come with backup disks to reinstall your O/S.

Because we quite often get calls from people that have formatted their machines and wiped all the drivers from the hard drive and call in thinking it is our fault until we show them that the network card icon has disappeared and we then refer you to the vendor.

Re: formating c drive - will i have to install broadband again ?

Also, if your operating system isn't installed on that drive you have nothing to worry about anyway. Most connections are configured through hardware, so even if Windows get overwritten you'll have the system pieced together properly.

You might have to run Windows' networking wizard again, but it's just a one-off thing and it shouldn't take very long. As other people have pointed out, keep a disc with your drivers on hand in case you need to reinstall them without an internet connection.

it will just work as long as the OS has built in drivers for your lan card.

if you not sure if thats the case then download them ready and have them either on a 2nd hdd or on removable media.
