What have google done?
I was happpy with the white screen... I don't need to see trees or wooden structures when searching
oopps title should say what have google done.

I doubt that it is permanent.

Actually upon investigation it turns out you can change the background picture and supply one of your own choosing..

So you can. It needs a google account of course. I've changed mine to white, but the links look horrible now if you ask me.

I just switched to google.com instead of .co.uk and have the plain white page back

NCR stands for No Country Redirect as far as i can gather

I don't understand the ins and outs of how it works but I use Google . co .uk as my Firefox Home page and it comes up as normal. If I go to that address manually I get a background image.

The best thing about Google used to be speed and simplicity of presentation.
I hate the new "improved" Google front screen, it's a mess!!! When I do a simple search I don't want to have to login to get special settings, I want the old speed and simplicity back.
Personally I think they have scored an "own goal" with regard to the search engine part of their business!
