Boyle goes too far?

http://beta.news.sky.com/skynews/Hom...k_Star_Rebuked

Firstly I'm a huge fan of his, and there's more than an element of "you know what you're getting yourself in for" if you go to see him but that certainly does not give someone absolute freedom to say whatever they like.

I think he might well have gone too far in this. His apparent reaction on stage however could be shock on his part that someone who has paid to see him has ended up offended, not something I reckon he's used to.

He did the same act when I saw him a few weeks ago. It was shocking but IMO no more than any of the other stuff he did.

Re: Boyle goes too far?

There is always someone wanting their 15 minutes of fame by being "offended" by something. If they were that offended then why not just leave, and not bother going to see the bloke again - why the need to go crying to the media.

Who the hell would go to see Boyle knowing what he is like and then become offended by his material?

Re: Boyle goes too far?

This is one of my biggest grypes, why go and see a comedian who does material that will offend you??

They obviously haven't seen Jimmy Carr.

Didn't you read the article, she didn't go crying to the media it was in her blog and she won't be going to see him again, it's his ''Last ever tour''.

I liked this complaint

In November, Olympic swimmer Rebecca Adlington complained to the Beeb after the Scottish comic joked she resembled "someone who's looking at themselves in the back of a spoon".

Re: Boyle goes too far?

This bit gets me:

"I expected dry, nasty, crude humour, yes, but unimaginative humour poking fun at the stereotype of people with Down's syndrome was not something that I expected."

So basically she's happy when he's lampooning someone else but when it comes to her, suddenly its out of order.

She knew what she was getting into, she shouldn't whinge.

Re: Boyle goes too far?

Most folks know what to expect going to see someone like Frankie, and sitting in the front row for any comedy gig is also setting yourself up to be included in such shows (quite a few other rows too if Andy Parsons pre gig on stage camera is anything to go by)

Re: Boyle goes too far?

She knew what he was like and she had thick skin. I think that is what is meant by "he went too far". Sometimes something isn't funny and if your being grossly offensive then you have to be funny or original at least. It's generally better if by being so shocking your either sending yourself up or making another point.

He was simply doing exaggerated impressions of people with a disability. There is nothing new or clever he what he did and that is the Women's contention, that the only thing he did is laugh and mock people with Down Syndrome. Presumably because he thinks that they are an acceptible target. Again, It's quite ok for any topic to be chosen for humor but it is how you do that makes the difference.

Still she isn't suing him. Just said he went too far. He seems to have taken on board so story over.

Im offended by your comments

I can understand her being a bit upset but at the end of the day shes paid to go and see a comedian and surely knew what his jokes were like. I would think these aren't his personal views and its about trying to make people laugh, maybe shock them in to laughter.

I got some last minute tickets for a Jerry Sadowitz gig once that should have been in the front row. Luckily I got them changed to two rows back and someone else had to cope with him and the unfortunate "spitting, foaming at the mouth and aids combination".

Re: Boyle goes too far?

So Russ from hearing what everyone else has to say, and I'd agree with all of them, as they all say the same thing in the end. Do the comment here make any difference to you or change your of opinion? Are there things that shouldn't be allowed (do you have any other examples perhaps)?

As stated in the article, if this person laughed at another joke she would be then hypocritical.

Re: Boyle goes too far?

She paid to hear and laugh at crude nasty comments said about somebody elses daughter. but when it come to her daughter having crude and nasty comments made?

you can't please everyone with comedy. you can only please certain sections of people at a time.
