Current Prices
I am hearing that Virgin is upgrading their BB services and also seen them lost some TV channels recently. So I decided to check what the current prices are and review my options.
I can't say their web site is very clear. So for an existing customer what should be the price for :
10 Mbps BB
XL TV
Phone line with Talk Unlimited
How much do I need to get V+HD and 50 Mbps BB ? Is there any one off charges for installation ?
Will I need to start a new contract if I change the existing package?

Re: Current Prices
The ones I noticed was Setanta spots. Hopefully they will replace it with something else later.
If they added something lately, it haven't caught my eye yet

Re: Current Prices
Okay so I spec XXL, XL and XL on the website and it comes to £57 + £11 phoneline... £68 total. Now, am I right in thinking that the XXL in that package is currently being charged at £35, £7 dearer than what it will be at £28 on 1st sept. So come 1st sept, the package should be £61?

Re: Current Prices
No it will be £66 - a £2 price drop. This is because the Triple XL 50 already had a extra £5 off the XXL price
From 1st September XXL will be £8 more than XL on all deals

Re: Current Prices
Why is that then? It says it's £35 + £11 phoneline now, so there should be £7 difference in sept.
EDIT: woops, I see you're quicker than I can post

Okay so I'm on an old XL Plus deal that charged me £30 installation with no charge for the V+ install. £67pm (includes 1 x V+ and 1 x standard v box). That was about 18 months ago. So I call to "upgrade" today and ask about matching the websites price for the bundle which should be £68 plus £5 for extra box and free installation, just the £20 install fee. But I'm told £50 for installation (I assume this is £30 install and £20 activiation) and the cheapest way to add the service was to add the £10 to the XL plus price making it £77 (£75 in sept) as changing me over to another deal would cost more as I never paid for the V+ install:? Something about it being £75 that I got for free and if I changed to another deal I'd have to pay that so it'd work out more?? So basically, he was saying they could take that into account and kind of retro-charge me? I didn't want to continue the conversation at that point I had to get my head round it! Does it sound right?

Re: Current Prices
Thats right
Triple XL + extra STB + TI/TM which is all that is in the XL Plus is £66
Triple XL 50 + extra STB + TI/TM which is all in the XL Plus would be £74
So you are only £1 out a month.
You would have to pay £49 for the V+ conversion fee

I think the £1 difference is due to me using paper billing still. Okay so it will be £74 with ebilling.
So you are telling me, that if I ever want to convert to another deal with Virgin ie one that new customers might take, regardless of whether or not I sign up for another 12 month contract, I will have to pay a sort of "get out cause" in this £49 v+ box charge that I never paid initially? I'm sure he mentioned £75 actually. Which is it, 49 or 75?
Also, say I were to upgrade to XXL broadband on his terms, paying the extra £8pm and paying £50 installation. Will that be locking me into another 12 month contract or not? I'm out of contract at the moment

It's £49. If anyone say it's £75 point them in the direction of the website

A new 12 months for all services would apply

Re: Current Prices
Okay how about this. I want XXL, XL and XL with 1 v+ and 1 v box. That for new customers in a couple of weeks will be £71 right. Say I want that deal, and I also want to get the f*** out of this godforsaken owing them money for the V+ thing that I didn't even know about.
My options if I'm right are stay in the XL plus deal upgrading to XXL with a £50 install and extra a month making it £74 and by doing so confirming another year with them.
How about this: I pay the £49 get out charge, and switch to the new users deal at £71pm for the same thing. By doing that surely I should also get free installation worth £30 and only have to pay for the £20 activation fee like they do. So that should save me £3pm for a year which is £36 and another £30 makes £66 which is more than the £49 get out crap. Wouldn't that be better for me? So then I'm free and pay less and don't have that get out rubbish around my neck? Of course I assume if I continue the way he wanted in my current deal not paying the £49 getout, I will have to pay it eventually!

Re: Current Prices
Okay... so then it will cost me £13 to get out of the v+ owing thing in the way I want then right.... £13 more than what he's offering staying in the XL Plus scheme. (£36 saving as a new customer, but £49 getout difference).
Do you think that's my best bet? I just don't like the idea of this lingering debt with them anytime I want to change my package. I'm also concerned that the price may go up, and say in another year it may be £99 for the getout.

Re: Current Prices
Yes it does seem us XL Plus people are being stuffed along the line here. I didn't realise I was paying a rental on my V+ until I checked my bill really closely because I wanted to remove v stuff unlimited.

Re: Current Prices
Yeah I think it's crud. I think if I'm gonna commit myself to another year anyway I may aswell pay this £49 V+ setup fee while it's at that rate. As I say, in another year it could be free, but then it could also be £99. At a cost of £13 to me I think it's worth it for peace of mind.
Cost overall to stay in XL Plus and upgrade to 50 meg: £938 (£74pm for 12 months + £50 installation)
Cost to go to Triple XL 50 but by doing so pay this annoying fee that otherwise stays with us: £951 (£71pm for 12 months + £50 installation + £49 V+ conversion/setup fee) (The monthly figure worked out with additional £5 charge for me having an additional stb)
I will only be losing the Talk International and Talk Mobile features which offer 25% off calls to mobiles and international numbers from the virgin landline (which is a feature of the XL PLus) but as I don't use the phone it's not worth it to me.
