Another brilliant idea
http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/england/london/8360380.stm
Quote:
A woman convicted of murder has gone on the run during an escorted visit to the shops in south London.
Patricia Gillette, 41, from Streatham, south London, was detained indefinitely in 2007 for killing Mark Murphy, 38, at his home in Streatham in August 2006.
|
So indefinately means 2 and bit years.
I can understand she was probably suffering from pretty severe mental illness so the length of sentence isn't really the problem. The main issue is
Quote:
|
Det Supt Gary Gornell said: "This individual is dangerous and we need to apprehend her as soon as possible. If anyone sees her, please don't approach her, but call police immediately."
|
So she is dangerous and not to be approached. Why on earth was she even considered for outside visits in, I assume, preparation for her release back into the community.
I might be off the track but surely detained indefinately means until they are no longer a risk to the public before thinking about turfing them out of care.

Re: Another brilliant idea
And the Bethlem had the cheek to complain when the local residents association objected to the expansion of their "secure" unit.

Obviously the area she was allowed to go shopping in has no residents who are judges, CPS barristers or polititians living there. So if she does flip-out and kill somone, it will only be one of us plebs....

We were told years ago that if the local police sent their helicopter up over the area at night, the chances are that someone has escaped. On average, the helicopter goes up about once or twice a month..

I can understand the benefits of shop visits for someone who has been institutionalised for 20+ years getting out and about to see how things have changed from the time they were last out in public.
I can't see how much things have changed in 2 years to warrant her getting out on visits.

Probably a reward for being good, call me old fashioned but I thought if you broke the rules prison got harder, you didn't get bribed into towing the line.

Thank goodness they caught her before she missed a meal, I heard she is over 25 stone, how the hell did they let her get away, some one should get sacked but given the staff shortages (probably the reason why crims are rewarded anyway thinking about it) they wont be.
