Re: Netgear MR814V1 Help

This isn't really a "Virgin Media Internet Services" query, more of a networking one.
I'm guessing you've read through the knowledge that came with the router?
Have you checked Netgears Popular Knowledgebase Documents.
To answer one of your questons,"ip settings", you have a cable connection and your ip is dynamic.

Re: Netgear MR814V1 Help

The router can be installed without the cd.

How to install the router:

1. Plug the ethernet cable coming from your modem into the internet port of the router.
2. Take another ethernet cable, plug it into the ethernet port of your computer and then plug into one of the 4 remaining LAN ports on the router.
3. Make sure the computer is set to obtain an ip address automatically.
Right click on network adapter, select properties, double click on internet tcp/ip and make sure it is set to obtain an ip address automatically.

Go to start, run, type cmd, hit ok, at the flashing cursor type ipconfig. You will get an ip address, subnet mask and default gateway (router). For example,

192.168.1.2
255.255.255.0
192.168.1.1

Type the ip address of the default gateway (router) into the internet explorer address bar and hit enter. You can then enter the user name and password to gain access to the configuration page(s) of the router. User name & password should be on the bottom of the router.. Default should be admin and password

Note, this is for a wired connection, once you have gained access to the config page(s) of the router you can set the ssid ( user name ) & password. Then ( should you wish to go wireless) use windows built in Wireless Zero Configuration
At the bottom of the page in the link below for an easy guide on doing this step.
