BT Modem Question
Hello there,
My brother is moving to Australia at the start of August to start a new job there so amongst other things he will be cancelling his BT Broadband subscription but what he wants to know and has enlisted me to find out is when he cancels does he have to return the Voyager Modem to BT?
If he is not required to return it to BT he is going to give it to me but I am on Virgin Media Broadband so i would get no use out of it so should i sell it or just dispose of it?
Any advice would be very helpful.
Thanks

I can tell you now that the BT modem or any BT router will not work on the Virgin network and possibly another forum member will answer the rest of your question.

Re: BT Modem Question
Unless any different to Virginmmedia's policy, you are given the modem for use during your contract with them. It still belongs to them.
Selling it would therfore be illegal.
As has been mentioned it will not work on a Virginmedia connection.
Often they are not that bothered if they go back or not.
Just phone them up and get an address if you want to get rid of it and post it to them.
There is nothing else you can do with it.

Ending the service
Subject to paragraph 33 of the BT Residential Standard Terms you must pay a charge for ending BT Total Broadband within the minimum period by way of compensation to us. This charge will be equal to the total of the monthly rental charges left in the minimum period. We may also charge you up to £45 for any equipment we may have provided to you as part of the service.

Though I am guessing the £45 is only relevant if cancelling prior to the minimum contract term.

Re: BT Modem Question
If it's the USB Voyager - throw it away, they aren't worth keeping lol,
had one here, sustained speed was 178kbit/sec, replaced with linksys wag200gt and now get 2mbit (line length limitation)

Yes he has been with BT for 3 years so the £45 would not apply.
