What type of cable is this used for?

Hello,

I have be cleaning out a few things and have come accross a bag of cables/connectors, but have no idea what they are or what they are used for.

Can anyone please help. They seem to be some kind of "changer" ie. from 25pin to 10 pin.

One has 25 pins (DB-25 male) and the other has 10 pins (DB-10 female), i think this is correct. I have done a search on Google, but nothing.

looks like it's designed to be used for motherboards that have serial headers(sockets) on board. The DB-25 would normally be screwed to an expansion slot plate.

are you sure it's 25 pin to 10 pin? and not 25 pin to 9 pin? like this one...

If I remember rightly, these leads used to be used for printers, scanners, tape drives etc... the 9 pin is connected via a com 1 or 2 port, old mice usually used com 1.

The 25 pin male parallel usually connects to the appliance (scanner etc.). or it could by similar to a laplink cable for data transfer pc to pc.

It'll probably plug into a 9 pin port though.

It's a 25pin serial connector that comes from a motherboard.

Ah yeah, I see the little black connector more clearly now... I thought it was the 9 pin D-type serial connector.

Look's like a serial connector that would have fed off the motherboard.

i had a cable (one in pic's)and was used to control a robot arm and to programme a PIC Microcontroller board.mostly used for programming chips in mechanical arms.
