If the V+ recording was transmitted in HI Def will it burn onto a standard DVD?

On your point about recording Hi Def the problem you face is that once you record onto your V+ box then you need to transfer the recording onto a Hi Def recordable units and the only way you can do this is via HMDI cable and not scart. Noting there is only one HMDI output on the V+ unit anyway. You should also note that Hi Def recording don’t like playing unless via an HMDI cable, so I am not sure how that would work once you have transferred the recording.
I have played around and tried various options, but so far not managed to transfer a Hi Def recording; I still find the basic upscalling, via scart, sufficient for my needs. I will just have to wait until they (
Pioneer, Sony, Panasonic) bring out a decent hard drive / recordable disc unit that can take Hi Def content whether via HDMI input optional, so you can edit (loose the commercials) and record onto disc in Hi Def.
I have no doubt someone will correct me about such a product.
