Can anyone explain these error messages, please

For the last few days we've been having problems trying to access the interactive text services especially BBC news, weather, etc. (using V+ box).
Menu comes up, but when item is selected error message comes on saying that 'screen is temporarily unavailable' gives an error code of 502 to quote, along with 'http://www.bbc.co.uk/interactive/liberate/cazoom/news/newsbits.shtml.

When trying to access Catch Up on Demand, it's like playing a juke box. You select the programme you want to view and get various responses:
jackpot = selected programme plays normally
or
error message saying screen temporarily unavailable and quoting code 1092/502
or
menu goes through selection processes normally, says programme is about to play (time running may or may not appear) but screen stays black and nothing happens
or
one of the above 2 happen, but box freezes. Box shows remote control trying to connect, but pressing back, etc, has no effect and only solution is to turn off TV and turn back on again.

rebooting makes no difference, and programme that can't be selected may be working normally when tried a few minutes later.

I know I'll have to contact Virgin help line eventually, but after bad experiences with broadband and Indian help line, I'm hoping that someone here can advise. Not even sure if problem is only with our box, or if it's a regional issue.

You'll have to call VM I reckon. You may have a signal problem. In anycase you will need an engineer to look at it.
Give them a reasonable time to fix it. If they don't or can't then get a TV service from some other supplier.

Sorry about delay in getting back, but I've been waiting to make sure the problem had gone, rather than just an intermittent fault, but it's been fine for 2 days now.

Mick, it was your mention of a 'signal fault' that reminded me I'd checked the scart leads, but hadn't checked the actual Virgin cable. I didn't find anything loose, but pushed the plug firmly into the box and tightened the wall connections and HEY PRESTO text is working well and On Demand is perfect too.

Puzzled because nothing had happened to loosen any connection, so not 100% sure this was the cause of the problem, but it has certainly cleared now.

Thanks for your help.

a signal fault is the signal that comes into your house from the cable under the ground.
