Angry [MERGED] Government Security?

Green protesters have erected banners and are apparently launching paper aeroplanes from the roof of the House of Commons.

Another laughable lapse in security eh...

Their paper planes had better be made from recycled sources.

Yep - they're still protesting about their delayed pay rise

Apparently they are, insofar as they're recycled from emails sent by British Airways:

Quote:
…it’s a photocopy of an email from someone at BA to a Dept of Transport official about something complicated that I can’t be bothered to read…
That's from the blog of some twit of a Daily Mail journalist, who evidently can't be bothered to do any research if its too complicated and gets in the way of having a go at these public spirited gentlemen on the roof. See, I can work it into anything.

At least they live up to their name

"Protesters from the Plane Stupid group climbed onto the roof at about 0930 GMT"

What's stupid about that? I live under the flightpath and am seeing first hand how the Government is ignoring and twisting the consultation*, so what else is there to do but take direct action?

* There's no actual way of saying 'no thanks, I don't want a runway' in it, for instance, which would seem an obvious response to cater for.

We live under one too, albeit not as intrusive as yours, but then again it was here before we moved to the area. What can be done about airports like Heathrow? Well moving it isn't really a practical option and let's face it few people want one near them so what's the point of asking that question? So unless HMG can change the habits of those people who want to fly a lot, I suspect we're all going to have to get used to the situation and some of us will bear the brunt more than others.

Here's your flightpath of a nice, "quiet" evening around the top of the hour (7pm). 11 miles, 6 aircraft on finals, 3 on the OCK hold and a multitude more on the others off the edge of the map. Mornings are another story.

Well, quite, and obviously I knew when moving here that there was a flightpath over it. However, one could be forgiven for also knowing, because BAA *told* everyone at the time, that Terminal 5 was the last expansion contemplated at Heathrow. It's that being a straightforward lie that tends to start me off viewing things a bit negatively.

Either HMG or the oil price *will* change the habits of those who fly a lot, short-haul at least. London to Brussels/Manchester/Paris are all swinging in favour of rail now, and Amsterdam, Edinburgh, Cologne and Glasgow could follow if the effort put into flattening several villages in West London was put into transport schemes that don't tie us to fossil fuels.

Security - Don't Make Me Laugh

It always makes me laugh, when we hear the government say, that we are going to tighten up secruity at the House of Parliament and Heathrow Airport, and what has happened over 48 hours, breached secruity at both places.

I used to work at both places, and it is so relaxed, it is a laugh, l drive round Heathrow every day, and have done so for two and a half years, l have only seen police stops three times, and that is only to check car tax etc, anyone can climb over the fences, due to the workman of T5, leaving there stuff there, and you always get plane spotters, stopping, when they are not supposed too. When l worked at the Houses of Parliament during the recess, they checked out over 500 people for contractors, one month before opening, the same check was done again, and over 300 people were thrown out, the company l worked for, had to sack over thirty staff, and we had one guy who used three names, and he got through each day using different names, no the parliament situation happened 17 years ago, but if people can get in now, nothing has changed INISDE the terminal, secruity is tight, as l have gone through secruity myself, and can vouch for that, but outside is poor.

Re: [MERGED] Government Security?

The Home Secretary made me laugh when she described the protesters as irresponsible. I think that best describes the security services at Heathrow & the House of Commons, rather than the protesters!

It's fortunate that they were not from a more sinister organization.

btw...what's the current fine for littering?
