Cool STB & TV Interaction Probs

I connected to Virgin Media late last year and took broadband, cable TV & home phone. So far, the service has generally been good but I have one problem that won't go away.

On the cable TV service on our main TV, a Samsung 32" LCD unit, there is an intermittent interruption to the picture and sound which seems to be triggered by a large block of primary colour being displayed on screen. It doesn't appear to be an issue with the signal as we have a 2nd TV in the kitchen, an older CRT portable, connected via a separate STB and there are no problems on that TV, even when watching the same program. The interruption takes the form of momentary loss of sound & picture, then OK momentarily, then loss of sound and picture again. This continues until the shot changes and the colour block removed when the program returns to normal. An engineer has been out and changed the STB (also by Samsung) and checked the settings but the problem continues.

One solution we have found is if the channel is available on Freeview, to switch off the STB and use the TV's internal digital tuner to watch on the freeview channel, which seems a bit mad.

I can only summise that there is an interaction problem between my Samsung STB and my Samsung TV. Has anyone else had this problem and can offer a solution? Would upgrading from the normal V box to a V+ box solve this problem?

All ideas gratefully received.
