US Elections.........yawn

Is it just me? I'm already sick and tired of the coverage of the US Primary Elections. The likes of the BBC keep asking why the UK is fixated upon it all but are we really or is the media once again forcing the coverage upon us?

Certainly we all have an indirect interest in who the next US President is, but in the absence of any influence over proceedings there, do we really want hour after hour of radio/TV coverage from PigsKnuckle, Arkansas and BrokenToe, Idaho over the next year?

I have the saying:

All politics is (insert potentially offensive term meaning very stupid).
But American politics is so (insert term), it's entertaining.

Re: US Elections.........yawn

Well you won't have to put up with it for a year, at least not the primarys. They pretty much come to a end in early February. Then there will be less coverage here for a while until Summer and the run up to the conventions. Then pretty much constant coverage until November when the election takes place

That prospect offers about as much relief as offering the condemned man a choice of gas chamber or electric chair.

OK, so you're living in the greatest secular democracy on earth, founded by far-sighted men of enlightened views, both Christian and atheist (hello, my avatar) and deliberately set up so that religion is an entirely personal matter that the state should both not interfere with and not promote. Now this chap nobody heard of five minutes ago thinks that should be thrown in the bin, and he's running for President*.

Actually, he's apparently freaked out even US evangelicals with this bit of theocratic treason.

* Of the USA, rather than Iran, in case anyone's confused. They'd like him there.

Huckabee

He's the fervently anti-evolution Southern Baptist minister with the "celebrity" support of Chuck Norris isn't he?

Chuck Norris? Lord Byron could 'ave him with one arm tied behind his back. The big wuss.

Quote:
Lord Byron's fame rests not only on his writings but also on his life, which featured extravagant living, numerous love affairs, debts, separation, and allegations of incest and sodomy. He was famously described by Lady Caroline Lamb as "mad, bad, and dangerous to know." Byron served as a regional leader of Italy's revolutionary organization the Carbonari in its struggle against Austria, and later travelled to fight against the Turks in the Greek War of Independence, for which the Greeks consider him a national hero. He died from a febrile illness in Messolonghi.

His daughter Ada Lovelace, notable in her own right, collaborated with Charles Babbage on the analytical engine, a predecessor to modern computers.
Did anyone else hear the recent Burger King advert that tried to claim Byron was in some way effete and unmanly and start swearing at the radio?

Well it might be worth waking up if there was anything pratical we could do to influence who's elected but since we very sadly can't, I'll stick to my yawning and pray that the next president isn't worse than this one.
