BT Billing Question

Hello!

A mate of mine has had a problem with BT billing...

He had a bit of a mishap with the Bank they are with, with bank charges because BT tried to take 12 Months worth of Broadband and Line Rental Money, which, obviously, wasnt there.

There was the amount they have been paying for the past couple of months, which should have been Direct Debited.

Now BT are requesting the 100% payment of 12 Months service, otherwise, no re-con and debt collectors thereafter.

Why are they charging him 12 Months worth!?!? Why is it not monthly?!

Re: BT Billing Question

are they charging 12 months in advance? or does he owe 12 months worth of services?

It seems odd to be threatening with a collection agency, if they are not in arrears

Re: BT Billing Question

Hes been in touch. Not sure why they want the money upfront, but I cant see any reason WHY they should want it all upfront for a service he wants, but isnt gonna get.

£800 is the amount they are asking for...

Re: BT Billing Question

Ok.

Becuase me mate has online billing, Ive had a look, and the same charges have appeared twice. Has anyone else had this?

Firstly, he has a "Remainder of the Contract" fee of £326. (Thats for BT Broadband Unlimited one).

Then, 8 days later, he has another bill (18th Dec) asking for £320 more... stating this is the "New Sevice Charge" from 1 Jan- 8 Jul.

These two look identical to me! So has he been double charged? And has anyone else experienced this?!

Now, after the fact, and I am pretty sure its a double charge, he will owe them £400 (the service charge for the remaining contract, and call charges, VAT and what not from the previous month.).

Is there anyway to get BT back onside, and will they reinstate the contract if he pays an amount they specify (for example, the outstanding charges for calls and all, plus this months service), and get back to paying monthly?

Here are the bills: (I know there is £6 difference. I dont know what they are but it isnt much difference is it?)
