Sony Laptop not booting.

My Mate runs the local Boxing club and he has a laptop for their affairs.
Recently, it refuses to boot up. If you push the on button , the lights come on and go straight off again.
It does the same whether you have the battery in or just try to boot from the mains.
It`a a Sony Vaio PCG-FX101, personally i think the Motherboard has had it.!
Any ideas would be greatly appreciated, The boxing club are self sufficient so they don`t have a great deal of money to spend.
Thanks for all replies.
Neil.

Re: Sony Laptop not booting.

bud, does the lappy go into bios at all or is it even dead by then?

perhaps something to try is to get a service manual for the laptop and see if you can reset the cmos?

but I think you might be right on the mobo part mate...sounds like the mobo has had its last fight.

Hi Doc, Just the green lappy lights come on briefly and then go out again. If i hold the button down, they do the same thing over and over. I`ve been building and repairing pc`s for about 10 years now but not had much to do with laptops i must admit. Do they have a psu like Desktop pc`s have or not.?
And no, it does not even reach the bios screen.

Re: Sony Laptop not booting.

if the mobo is dead you can retrieve the data from the HD by buying an HD enclousre (about £10)
