Solaris download size!
I'm considering downloading the Solaris 10 operating system, but the size is almost 2GB and I don't want to put myself at risk of being throttled. I was looking to start downloading now...is this ok, or is it possible that I would be put on a black list?
I'm seriously paranoid about downloading large files - even though lots of people have explained that it'll be fine with vm.

If your really worried, why not ask virgin to mirror it

Then they carn't complain at all.

Re: Solaris download size!
Basically, Virgin downloads it, and hosts it on their network. Because they own the network, it doesnt cost them anything for you to download it from inside their network. This means that they save money and thus dont mind you download lots from their mirrors. The other reason is that inside the network, you can get much better speeds than outside the network.
They litrally "mirror" whats on the solaris server, like a copy

Out of interest, how long will it be before I can get it off their mirror? Have you got the name of the mirror site? Cheers

Re: Solaris download size!
it depends how slow they are... they might decide not to mirror it, and they might take 3 months to mirror it.
Personally, i would just download it.

Re: Solaris download size!
You needn't worry about 2Gb. You could DL 2Gb a day and not raise an eyebrow in my experience.

Re: Solaris download size!
Thanks for the reassurance crowlord. I started about 5 minutes ago, the 5 simultaneous downloads running at about 250KB/s each, so I'm getting the full 10 (through orbit)

One last thing - I've heard people can get letters through the door for heavy usage, is this true? (this is pretty much my first major download)

Re: Solaris download size!
It's not a big enough download to trigger an automated letter and as a one off it would probably not even raise an eyebrow let alone suspicion.
