Remote access to wired internet cam

Hope this is in the correct forum, sorry if it's not.

I have added a Linksys WVC54GC Internet Camera to my home network (direct link to Linksys WRT54G router) and can view the video while at home, but cannot connect to it via the internet.

I have set up a (Linksys) Sololink account and a DynDns account (as VM use Dynamic IP), have set up port forwarding on the router, but for some reason I still can't connect remotely.

Has anyone else done something similar, or does anyone have any ideas what I may have missed?

Thanks.

Re: Remote access to wired internet cam

What port is the camera using, and is this the port you have forwarded? If so, you should be using IE (an old thread on Google suggested FF doesn't work properly with these cameras (or vice versa!) and browsing to http://<Your IP or DDNS name>:<port> (eg http://192.168.1.2:1024)
Try connecting to your current NTL IP first rather that the ddns name.

Re: Remote access to wired internet cam

Aragorn - Thanks for the reply.

The port is 1024 and that is the one I have forwarded. Also, I'm using IE7. I am trying to connect to http://<Your IP or DDNS name>:<port>, but no luck.

Thanks.

Re: Remote access to wired internet cam

If you enable logging on the router (under Maintenance, iirc) do the incoming router logs show an attempt to contact the port?
Hmm - the US Amazon site suggests it doesn't work with IE7!

Re: Remote access to wired internet cam

Aragorn - Thanks for the reply.

I still can't manage to get anything through the Sololink account (nothing in the router logfile either), but I found the DDNS setup section on the router and now that I have enabled that I seem to be able to get access through that.

Not sure how the ip address gets updated if the DynDns Updater is installed on my PC and the PC is off, but we'll see about that tomorrow when I'm at work.

Thanks.

Re: Remote access to wired internet cam

Oh well. DynDns worked for 5 days, now I can't connect with that either.

Will uninstall everything tonight and try again

Re: Remote access to wired internet cam

Uninstalled & re-installed last night and still cannot access from the web - Even though the ip address hasn't changed and DynDNS is pointing to the correct ip.

Anyone have any ideas?

Thanks.
