5.1 sound?

Has anyone connected up their V+ box to their home cinema amp via digital optical o/p and can confirm that on demand movies are in 5.1 sound?

Re: 5.1 sound?

From the On demand stuff I have tried it is only HD stuff that can have 5.1 Dolby Digital sound.

Re: 5.1 sound?

I have had mine connected up via optical since the boxes came out. When the option came up on setings to overide via optical it is not true 5.1 on bbc hd. It is only 2.1 but when we had itv hd it was true 5.1 which i find hard to understand why bbc hd isn't.

Re: 5.1 sound?

The problem i have found is the v+ box outputs the sound with pcm if it was a bitstream the av amp could decode it.

Re: 5.1 sound?

BBC HD (channel 108) has a number of programs in 5.1, including Torchwood and Later.... For ease of use, the 20 minute 'barker' reel that show throughout the day is also in 5.1. If this loop isn't lighting up the 'Dolby Digital' light on your amp, then summat's wrong.

Re: 5.1 sound?

As stated, not all BBC HD programs are 5.1. Some are. As to why, I have absolutely no idea.

Surely it depends how they were originally recorded?

Re: 5.1 sound?

Well, yes But I also think that it has something to do with only the newer programs being in 5.1 - all the earlier stuff was maybe before they put their hand in pocket and forked out for a DD encoder...
