Virgin BB

When I applied for Virgin BB. I was told I could get their 8mb service.

The best speed I have had so far is 500k.

I contacted them and they said the max speed my line could take 2mb. (Which is not what they said when I signed up)

When I complained about the speed I was sent a bog standard fact sheet about checking connections etc and other obvious things that may affect speed.

But still 500K.

Crap

Re: Virgin BB

did you sign up online or by the sales team? From what i understand they should have told you the maximum capable speed of your line-which as you say is 2MB. As for getting 500K, culd be due to the contention ratio used by virgin, or perhaps youcould contact BT and ask them to increase the gain on your phone line-that may increase speed. More than likely to getanywhere you will have totalk to BT as it is their line being used.

Re: Virgin BB

Virgin lie and say anything to get you to sign up. once you are a customer you will get **** service, or none at all. Their sales staff are KNOWN to lie to get commission and suck you in as a customer only to give you no support or service ever.

Re: Virgin BB

I am moving to a non cabled area and although i have had some problems with NTL i found them pretty good. My new flat has BT phone line, could someone please help as i have only experience of cable. My local exchange is about 1 mile away and i dont do p2p, can anyone give me tips and pointers to get me back on the net quickly after the move. Which ISP is good or will I have to take BT as Hobsons Choice. Sorry, i appear to hhave posted in te wrong forum, mea culpa

The best advice when choosing a new ISP, is user experiences. There are a couple of websites you can use to get a good idea about particular ISP's.

Adslguide have good forums, check out the user comments section.

Dsl zone has a ratings page, and other valuable sections, including user reviews.

I personally avoid ISP's that hide behind lengthy 12 month contracts, the best ones seem to offer monthly contracts, including my own ISP "ukfsn" who are doing nicely in the dsl zone ratings.
