Hmm, where to go after Bulldog?

I can't complain, to much, about Bulldog's service, although admittedly, when I was upgraded to the "16 meg" (aka open the gate) plan, we had problems.

Main problem which I even experience now, is disconnection issues.

I went through a hell of alot of emails, phone calls and stress to try and get it resolved, but even now it's not resolved.

So saying that, I like the fact I can get the MAX speed (well, 16mb anyways) and a 1mb upload, but I'm not happy with the company's service (I doubt many are heh)

Is there anyone out there that offers a similiar service?

Problem is, because it's a bulldog phone line, I can't do any checks on the phone number to see whether XXX service is available (Like Be and the other 24mb provider)
I can't get NTL because my brother allready has NTL broadband (And won't share it I might add)

I was thinking of SKy, but same problem again, they require a BT phone line to check it, which means what? I'd have to cancel bulldog, get a BT line, JUST to check whether it's available? heh

If anyone else lives near me, I'm in Worthing, my closest exchange is the Worthing (Swandean) one (postcode - bn13 2bn)

Re: Hmm, where to go after Bulldog?

Have CPW actually been sold (if that's the case, I am sure I would have found something on it), or are you referring to CPW's purchase of AOL UK which, according to El. Reg will save CPW an awful lot of money because it gives them access to AOL's LLU network.

Re: Hmm, where to go after Bulldog?

I thought i'd post this here, didn't want to create another thread, but can anyone suggest any ideas on what to regarding this problem I have.........

Quote:
Can anyone offer any advice?

Short version of my problems goes as follows

We had bulldog installed last year, roughly november time

All worked Aok, no problems, worked right up until we had the 16mb upgrade done

Ever since then, the broadband intermittently disconnects and reconnects

It does this several times a day, sometimes two/three times in the space of 2/3 minutes

Bulldog did a few line tests, results were

1) Line is perfect, must be your equipment
2) There's some resistance on the line, but no line noise

So, I replaced my router with 2 others, same problem
Replaced the microfilter, with a BT certified one and another one, same problem
Replaced the DSL cable for a shielded, high quality one, same problem

Eventually BT came out, did some tests, they saw the resistance to, the engineer said it was because of rubbish shielding/insulation on the cables in the CAB
That was fixed, same problems exist

For instance, so far today, it's cut off 4 times in the space of 10 minutes

The router (Linksys, WAG54GX2) is the only thing connected to the master socket, there is no phone, or extension cable.

Can anyone suggest anything?

Re: Hmm, where to go after Bulldog?

CPW are sharks, they owe me 6 months from a phone contract, time to leave aol after 13 years!

Whose the next best provider?

Re: Hmm, where to go after Bulldog?

Adam, you could post that over on the MBDH site if you want help getting something sorted. Why can't you get NTL? You can have twp accounts at the same address as long as they are in different names as far as I know.

Re: Hmm, where to go after Bulldog?

MBDH site? Mybulldoghell?

Yea, i'm waiting for a new router to arrive today then im' going to see how that goes
I did manually boost my download SNR figure from 10.0 to 21.6, which seems to be helping
Connection has been stable for 11 hours......but
The download sync has dropped from 16000 to about 9000
But, on the other hand, I prefer the stability to the speed.
