standby ghost

i changed my ntl modem connection yesterday from usb to ethernet. now though, when i put the pc on standby, it turns itself on again after about 10 mins!!!! are there ghosts at work?

Is wake up on LAN set in control panel, system, hardware, device manager?
Find the ethernet controller, double click on the device, select power management tab and untick the box that allows the device to bring the computer out of standby.

this could be a setting in bios also. When pc boots press the delete key or F2 until you get the blue bios set up screens .Search for power options and wake on lan is there.Turn it off do nothing else and press F10 save and exit

thankyou guys that worked! now my ethernet light goes off when in standby where as it stayed on before
