TV Drive Problems

Looks as if my 3rd TV Drive since March has died again.
Plus in view of investment in HDTV Plasma screen with no live program output in High Definition output from Telewest on the horizon, time to ditch in favour of SKY. Any views

I wouldnt blame Telewest for the lack of SKY HD channels, i would blame SKY for making the price far to high, of course telewest could agree to this but then you probally be paying about 3 or 4 times the amount to view the channels as if you where with SKY HD, my guess would be £60 a month for the HD channels if they took the carriage with what ever price is getting ask of just now, which begs the question if SKY is charging a very high price for the carriage can regulator not step in and force a price which is fairer as it allowing SKY to monopolise the market?

Re: TV Drive Problems

Appreciate the point you make, but if I want HDTV then Sky must be the answer, as nobody is going to pay the sort of premium you suggest to continue with Telewest. Can't see any commission forcing Sky to capitulate on this issue, certainly in the near future.

Excately hence why telewest wont pay the carriaeg charges cause no one will pay for the service so it no use

As far as i know the monolopy commission might force sky to reduce the rpice to carry teh channels as there monoolpisign the market so they get all customers coming to them

I've just dropped sky to the get Telewest TVDRIVE box. End of July

Thought this new HDBOX would be a cheaper option than SKY's £300 box.
I guess you get what you pay for !!!

What a JOKE !! this new Scientific Atlanta Telewest BOX is CR*P

Resets and noise, it locks up

Oh and theres the responce time...... Press a button on the remote and wait ....................................... Oh there it go's a menu (WOhoooo)

You can blow smoke signnals at the SKY box and it's almost instant responce.

The Telewest box has now finnaly turned it's toe's up, constantly resetting.

Called Telewest Saturday First Engineer available Tuesday (Bank Holiday !!)

What happened to 24 hr responce. Hell its only the bank holiday what do I need TV for anyhow ??????

I'll be going back to SKY ASAP and Telewest can whistle for there subscription fee (Service my 'A')

Wish I'd see this forum before I switched, why to you people put up with this kind of service ?????

VOTE with your FEET !! they'll soon get the message, and either sort the problems to attract customers back or go out of business

Thumbs up Re: TV Drive Problems

Well, as I said above, I've had mine since 1 Feb and it's working fine.

Had some national problems at first, but following a code drop in March, it has been no problem.

I think there probably quite a few duff TVDrives out there, unfortunately. Maybe the replacement will be better.

Re: TV Drive Problems

Hi,
I have had TVDrive from Telewest since June.
So far on my third box.
Since signing up with Telewest and getting the TV Drive I have encounter many of the common problems with the box that have been reported within this forum (failure to record series links - resetting of the box - collapse of picture quality - and so on).
Have spoken to the customer service team, who happily deny most of the glitches...bless...
Anyway last few weeks the box has settled down...still have to reset the thing at least once a day...the latest feature I have encountered has only just occured this week...
The new feature that they appear to have added is the re-appearance of deleted programs on the TV Drive when the unit is reset...error code 2056.
Spoke to customer service today advised that programs I have told the box to delete keep coming back, there reply....We will need to format your hard drive, you will lose your recordings best bet is to copy the recordings to video...pointed out that I no longer have a video player, the point of TV Drive is that I don't need a video player, this they didn't quite understand...bless.
Anyway, point of this little rant which will hopefully give some a giggle, others not bothered, whatever is that where I had a box that wouldn't record, now it won't delete the recordings...nearly there telewest...just waiting for the callback from customer services...

Re: TV Drive Problems

Hi
This TV Drive box has all the hallmarks of having an Intel Celeron processor (slow), and Microsoft software (full of bugs). The thing will go into a service routine (especially at 01:15 am), and then totally ignor user inputs for a time. It will then act on all the key presses once the said routine is completed. At this point I feel like executing my own code with a mallet! Isn't it nice when you rewind a recording, only to find you then can't stop it because it's now busy doing some (software) house keeping. If my PC can multi-task, then surely this ruddy box can.

Telewest. Please listen to your customers. Own the problem and, please tell us what you are doing to remedy this software issue. I've know beta release S/W to have less bugs than this.

Re: TV Drive Problems

Hi All.

Telewest TV Drive - Does anyone own one where they do not have any problems? I am currently on my 4th TV Drive box. I find Telewest customer servxce an absolute joke. Unfortunately, I'm tied in until June 2007 and it doesnt seem like I can do anything about it, but once this has run its course, ALL my services with Telwest will be cancelled, make no mistake. I'd rather pay slightly more for better customer service, as to be frank, their customer service could not be any worse.

We have broadband and phone from Telewest and to be honest we've never had many problems with the phone or internet service. The TV Drive package with free Teleoprt and Personal Recorder seemed too good to be true (as it is) and it didnt work out much different to Sky. As Sky wanted to charge us for a Sky+ box we thought we'd go to Telewest where the equipment is supplied (BIG, HUGE MISTAKE)

The TV at best is unreliable, the picture freezes and shows green blocks on the screen frequently. The Red button services do not work after the TV Drive has been on for half an hour. The recorded programs on the personal recorder wont delete and at 11.00 most nights, regardless of what channel you are watching the system decides to switch to a screen showing - This channel is now off air - You have to switch channels and back again to get the channels back.

Basically the system promises a lot and delivers very little. After having 3 replacement TV Drives, Telewest now tell me these faults are national faults that they are working on a fix for. This has been going on since June and still not resolved. The customer service that Telewest offer is the worst I have ever received and I cant wait to switch my whole system including phone and internet to another provider, as the service, put simply could not be any worse.

If you just want a Telephone system and broadband, then I cant say we've had any problems, but then - if we did have, would the service be just as bad? Sadly I suspect it would be.

I would not recommend Telewest to anyone so anyone who signs up for a TV Drive beware. The box is a complete load of crap !!!

Re: TV Drive Problems

I don't think its the actual TV Drive box but more down to the Telewest software that is maybe causing a lot of problems.

I can't wait to see the box running on NTLs EPG as its pretty fast on my existing box.

Re: TV Drive Problems

All I can say is that I am still using the TVDrive that was installed in February and although there have been problems, they've been minor and cured by a reset.

Wouldn't be without it now.
