Electrics Problem

Hey ive got a slight problem with this kit i aquired.

Basically it is a device that when hooked up that allows anything that is connected to it turn on and off for via the a remote.

The device is made for things for cars and i am using it for this purpose.

I have the live and and earth wires from the car, and also the same wires from the device i want to use with the device, but i have no idea how to connect it all up, any instructions that came with it are long gone.

The device looks tlike this:

I was also wondering is there something i might have to do to marry the remote with the unit? PS the remote came with the unit.

Is there any sort of part number on the device?

if this is only a remotely controlled switch then the black and red are the input power and the yellow and black are the switched output which you would connect to the device that you want to remotely switch

what are you "hooking up to it",

Chances are you may blow fuses and relays if not connected right

No its got nothing on it, no part number or anything.

I'm attaching some of the lights in the car. I have been testing on something else, which works fine connected to the battery.

I did try the obvious.

Red = Live
Black = Earth

Yellow = Live on light
Black = Earth on light

Didn't work, i am know thinking i have to do something so the remote corresponds to the unit, as i was looking around for this unit i noticed somewhere someone was going on about this.

Wire up the device as if it were always going to be installed. forget the remote device at the moment. Once done cut the live wires of the device and wire the remote outputs to both of the cut pieces of wires.

If this does not work then this device is intended for pulse remote operation, such as car door lock solenoids etc and not perm supply devices like your light/neons.

just to be pedantic..
Going off generally accepted terminology.

There is no "live" in a car.

it is a "positive" or +12v (red) wire & 0v (black) wire.

Just so it's not being confused with the mains wiring found in your house that does have "live" wires.

are there markings by 2 terminals that are "+ & -" and other markings that look like a swicth contact?
