Adobe problem on 6680
I've downloaded the version of Adobe for symbian OS on to my Nokia 6680 and stored it on a 128Mb card. I've then downloaded a 6Mb .pdf file on to it and tried to open it using Adobe but all I get is a message saying 'Operation Failed' and 'Not enough memory' when I know there's at least 25Mb of space on the card - anyone have any suggestions?

Re: Adobe problem on 6680
Maybe it doesn't use the card memory and relies on the phone memory?

Adobe PDF: This app is pretty useless for me right now, actually. Maybe it's my grey-market phone, but it gives me memory errors on trying to load any real-world PDF document. It also has a pretty limited range of zoom levels when you can get a document open, and is in general not particularly usable. This app is sort of a placeholder for when Adobe gets around to developing an mobile PDF reader that's actually useful.

Functionally, the phone could use a lot more useable RAM as I still get memory full errors once in a while

Hmmm, interesting, although when I download the application I get a choice of where to store it, the phone only has about 3Mb of space left therefore I always use the memory card.

Yes but I would expect that when it opens the file it will open it using the phone memory which by your admission only has 3Mb of space on it. Therefor no matter how big a card you put into it you are restricted by the usable memory built into the phone itself.

Grrrrr, it's Towny's fault, he shouldn't have been showing off by telling me he's got his bible on his PDA

How much memory is built-into the phone? Can you free as much of it up as possible without losing anything? If so you might be able to open bigger files by giving it more memory to play with.

Re: Adobe problem on 6680
It comes with 10Mb of memory and something is taking up about 4Mb of it, that might just be the OS as I'm constantly freeing up as much as I can to no avail.

Re: Adobe problem on 6680
One thing to remember about most phones is that adding a memory card to it only increases it's storage space and not it's usable memory area. Have you tried downloading a 3-4Mb file and then opening that? I'm thinking that you will be able to open up anything up to about 4Mb before it throws a tantrum again.

So it looks like it will only make use of the 10Mb built in for applications etc, your OS takes 4Mb up, the file will require it's 6Mb of ram to be stored in on the phone plus possibly another 6Mb of RAM that it will be using while being uncompressed. (It needs to read the file while writing it's uncompressed format into memory).

Re: Adobe problem on 6680
OK this is getting silly - I've removed more than 7Mb of crap from my phone's internal memory, the .pda file is about 6.3Mb and it's still telling me there's not enough memory

It probably hasn't got enough lol
It will need memory to read the file it is opening plus enough memory for it actually store it to usable RAM. How much total free memory have you got on the phone?

Re: Adobe problem on 6680
Just under 7.1Mb - I can see where this is going.
To get the entire bible on to .pdf takes up 6Mb. I need to either get a smaller version of it or somehow make the .pdf smaller - which just isn't going to happen

I'm not trying to be silly or anything, I just don't know..... Which bible are you referring to.
I just did a search and found the 'king james' version which works out at 3mb.

With apologies if it's incomplete or anything, obviously I didn't check all the way through.
