At home we have NTL as our isp, which I have set up a email account for.
Howver I'm at uni now and on a different ISP (plus net). I have tried to configure Thunderbird to connect to NTL's SMTP server (smtp.ntlworld.com) but i cannot connect.
pop.ntlworld.com is fine though and i can receive emails.
Can someone please help me try and work out what is wrong, ta.
Most ISPs restrict access to their smtp servers to customers who are using their service to connect - AFAIK this is to prevent relaying of spam.
The simple way around this, if you only want to use a single email account, is to set the email program to receive mail sent to your ntl account using the ntl pop server but send mail using the Plusnet smtp server. You can also specify in the email program your "reply to" address as the ntl email account.
