Webspace Required
I'm hoping someone could help. Is NTL webspace 55MB? If this is true, is the 55MB a strict 55MB or is there some leeway?
On another note. Someone recommended I-Web solutions for webspace, but I'm not sure it was from someone on these forums.
Thanks.

Re: Webspace Required
the amount of webspace offered by I-Web solutions is 'only' 100MB for their entry level package - great if you are using it for a blog or forum, but for dedicated storage of data, you may be better off with Gmail - 1GB of space & free.
That isn't to dismiss I-Web, I'm a customer, myself, but their packages aren't geared towards storage, if that is what you need.

So i did this, and then i tried accessing it (there were numerous problems) so i go back and ask for more help...."woops" you can only access your POP3 from oulook express. So i enable this... Buy this poin the internet version is completely failed, and the POP3 keeps coming up with time-out, or some stupid errors. So i contact them again.... "your inbox is full" WHAT!!! Problems Continued... and never got it working... both sites i registered with them are companies, and so GRRR!

Anyone looking for webhosting of any sort, i would recommend researching your host on Web Hosting Talk as they are independant people, that submit their problem hosts / opinions on current host......
The only thing is, most posts on WHT are regarding bad hosting experiences.... So trying to find a good host isnt easy, but if you do a search on the hostname in their forum, and find posts, i recommend you read them to find out exactly what your host is like...
I-Web isnt on their much at all unfortunately... (or is that luckiily)... so our customers views / opinions of our services come from places like Cable Forum, and from our testimonial section on our website.
Each host is different, offering different services for different people. Make sure that the support you recieve is good, send an e-mail to support@theirdomain.com and see how long it takes to get a response, exlain in the message (be fair) that this is just a test support message to gauge their response times. Also i would ask about things like upgrading packages... theirs nothing worse than purchasing a package to find out in 3 months time (when your website has really taken off) that your site is going to get suspended every 2 weeks because you have used up all your bandwidth. Another good thing to look for is a control panel, if you are new to having a proper hosting provider, it can often be daunting finding your way round a control panel. E-mail their sales dept, and see if they can offer you any sort of demonstration.
That should cover your basics, and ensure you get a package / company that suits you.....

Re: Webspace Required
Fair - enough - but i have had it for over a year and have had an excellent and trouble free time with them.
I run PHP and e-mail - with no problems, but admittedly dont use mysql. (Why would you care if you only get 50Mb with their Web Access - whats wrong with POP3? - I only use Web access if im on holiday or something - not as my main client)
I also used Livehelp with no problem, and when i have used e-mail support they have always been VERY quick and willing to deal with me.
For 20 quid its a bargain.
BTW - 20 quid + 17.5% VAT is 23.50 - nowhere near this "plucked out of the air" 30 quid that is mentioned above.
(Tells you a bit about the person posting)

Re: Webspace Required
I would have to say Iweb have been great. I'm currently installing an xcart shopping site and secure checkout. They got the site security cert installed and problems resolved promptly and were genuinely interested in sorting out this install and fixed IP promptly.

Agreed, but to compare what your asking, £1.99 Monthly or £21.49 Annually (with or without VAT BTW?) you appear to get much less.
E.g.
200 MB of Web Space
5000 MB of Bandwidth
200 Pop3 Accounts
I dont mean to pick holes, im sure you get what you pay for, but i find webmania to be a stonking good deal, and havent had any greif.

And thats the wonder of consumer choice and competition. OP asked for suggestions for hosting and now has two alternatives suggested, both with positive experiences. chill.
I'll also add that Demon (thus plc) provide fantastic hosting and incredible speeds and bandwidth and 24 hour person to person helpdesks, they are also ambivilent about using more server space on business accounts than you have bought. I called to ask how much more space I had to upload images and was advised that I had used 120Mb of my 50Mb allowance! Yet I could still upload more. Demon servers are also located in the UK near docklands so reducing latency further still. You pay top $ for this though.

And another... Do I read that right? 10 Gb of space and 100GB of bandwidth (what's the catch, 100Gb for the year?)
