Re: no rgb option

Ive noticed this problem before - happened to be my grabdfathers STB that I was connecting to a TV via scart. He also had no RGB option. And Id also love to hear an answer to your query as I unfortunately dont have one for you.

I dont honestly think that changing your STB will solve the locking up problem when trying to access interactive. From my experience, this is a problem with NTL in general - and wont be solved by replacing the box.

Hope you get an answer

James

Re: no rgb option

It's not a fault with the STB.

You're unlucky enough to have a first-generation 4001 box (press page up, page down, blue -- one of the pages will probably say you have HW version 0!). These boxes only output s-video or composite -- all other boxes do RGB or composite.

Unfortunately, given that there's not actually a fault with the box, I'm not sure that there's a lot that can be done about it...

Still no harm in trying though. My set-up is entirely designed around the fact I can use RGB connections, if I had a box without RGB it would actually be next to useless for me so I'd certainly be on to NTL to get it replaced, if they refused I may as well move to Sky.

Phone them up and tell them the fault. Apparently the Pace boxes are known for this, we've just had ours swapped to the new Samsung box a couple of weeks ago, and it's way better. No lock ups or anything yet, and it all loads up much faster too, interactive, EPG etc.

The engineer said the Samsung boxes run the software much better than the Pace box for some reason, even though they're not that much different spec wise. Our saga went on for over a year, I'd already had them out twice, before I read on here about the PAce problem, and got them back out.

I had just thought NTL weren't updating the EPG anymore too, as it was always saying no information available, but it turned out it was the box not seeing the info.

The engineer said they have next to no problems with the Samsung box, about 1% Samsung and 99% Pace, he reckoned. It's much better....and it's silver too, so matches your other stuff now.
